Not normal.
But common.
I don't know why people have children when they cannot treat them like little humans with needs and these same people would be crying about what victims they are somewhere.

I can’t stand parents who scream at their kids. Shitty parenting

Not in this country, Norway. It's such a rare thing that it is genuinely shocking when it happens in public.
But then again shouting is not very common at all here.

@JimboSaturn Just in case anyone actually does think that Norwegians don't do emotion:
Edvard Munch, Skriket
Vigeland's The Bridge in Frogner Park, Oslo:
And here is the Sinnataggen
In my opinion Vigelands Anlegg is one of the wonders of the world.
Edit: Here is the home page of the park:

@ninalanyon I was just joking, I believe you. I actually admire Norway a great deal. I could live there easily.

@JimboSaturn It's a great place; expensive to visit though. And the fact that the lowest paid people are actually paid fairly well tends to put the price of ordinary things like visiting a café or restaurant up.
The Gini index is one of the best in the world, if you believe in the idea that everyone should get a fair slice of the countries wealth that is.

I think it's pretty common. More so among some cultures than others. And I would say probably more so as people have more children- someone with 5 kids would be more likely to yell than someone with 1.
It wasn't common in my house. My dad is Filipino, and as is normal in Filipino culture, children are taught from a young age to submit to parents, which results in children being less assertive or independent. This means yelling isn't very common among parents- I actually found my dad lowering his voice to be scarier lol. But I would say in Western culture it is seen as more common, though doing so publicly or so loud that others can hear probably varies in normalcy based on where you live. In poorer areas of America, especially areas seen as 'ghetto', I would say it's normal to yell at kids even in more public settings- in front of their friends, from the porch, etc. I would say in many houses in the suburbs, it's common to do so in your own house, but usually not to the extent where others can hear frequently.

It is a "trailer park" behavior.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@chrisCA yes over dramatic yelling in general

I was walking into town yesterday an passed by a woman with a pram and small child and she would have made a sailor blush with her language to her children.
*edit: actually , I know a sailor and he probably wouldn't have blushed but figuratively speaking*

Shouting at kids becomes useless in keeping kids in line. The get used to it & tune you out.
I just give mine the look. Don’t have to say anything. LOL
