I've never had a problem with guns, but I have had many problems with people with attitude issues.
But crime seems to be higher where it's illegal to have guns, as the bad people are going to have guns either way, as they're not following the laws in the first place.
Of course, when they started talking about teachers being allowed to have guns in the class room, the two teachers that got most excited and volunteering to be the gun people for the school, were also the last two teachers I would want with a gun, as I thought they were the least mentally stable to start with. And the teachers that I was thinking would want the guns, and I would want him protecting the students had zero interest in them.
So, I don't think it's about the guns, I think it's about the people. And I think there needs to be some sort of limit, and no one has been able to correctly define where that limit should be, and be able to effectively enforce it, as the psychology profession wants nothing to do with gaging whom is or isn't allowed to have them.
Also, I've seen too many people do stupid things with guns, like put them in their normal standard pocket, which a number of people have shot themselves doing, as the trigger get caught and shoots their own leg.
So I feel like there would have to be mandatory trainings to have guns, especially concealed guns, and before anyone gets too upset about that, remember, we also need training to get a drivers license, so it's not something new, when using potentially dangerous equipment in a public setting, you need to to prove you have met a minimum requirement, and maybe allowed for gun ranges to let people practice, while being guided by an instructor, just like learning to drive, etc.
Usually familiy or friends are the first who notice something is off. They report to law enforcement or health providers, and an evaluation is ordered. If evaluation shows the person is at risk of harming themselves or others, their weapon & CC permit is temporarily removed.
Rules like these are called "Red Flag Laws", and they work. It's in effect where I am and hasn't impacted other gun rights, or my own carry. Check out more info here :
Start by increasing funding Start by taking the stigma away from seeking help Start by promoting more practioners to go into the field Start by "testing" children in school & providing guidence for them & their parents
It's complicated. It's a dangerous nation when we have such weak gun control, and if we can't have better gun control, it's probably best more sane people are armed. I don't know why we would need to conceal, though. In fact, I think concealing weapons shouldn't be allowed. Let every potential criminal know what they're up against up front.
Well that's a dumb argument. If we shouldn't have gun laws because criminals don't adhere to the law, using your logic, we shouldn't have laws against theft and murder because criminals don't adhere to laws.
You people who think that there will ever be sensible gun laws are living in LaLa land. No matter what laws you enact the bad guys will always find a way around it. There will always be illegal guns on the streets. With the invention of guns it was like opening up a can of worms we can't put the genie back into the bottle. There are police officers selling firearms back to the streets so the bad guys wear badges sometimes too. Google pawnshop and armory breakins where the entire place was cleaned out during robberies. Those guns are gone! People are 3D printing guns now. It just cannot be done there are way too many ways to get guns into the wrong hands of the wrong people. There is no turning back. We could get rid of every gun on the streets and someone somewhere will find a way to get them from somewhere else. Lets be realistic. Enacting gun laws is like protection orders that law or piece of paper will not protect you if you are looking down the barrel of shotgun about to get your head blown off because someone decides they want your purse.
@Patriot96 i never said people weren't the problem obviously guns don't shoot by themselves its not rocket science. I'm saying that laws don't matter when there are way too outlets to go around it. I had a friend in high school who built a gun like he was Mcgyver or somebody and he used to go into the woods and shoot it. There are way too many ways to obtain them in order to contain them that's all im saying. Laws don't stop gun running.
With thorough background checks, exclusion of minors, secure home storage, and weapons confiscation for owners who show signs of mental illness or threatening behavoir - I'm in favor.
If your family member or friend is wacko, they've got a record too and their report is flagged. Point is these laws work and don't impact responisble gun owners.
You want to politicize this call your congressman. That map of states with red flag laws includes Florida, Nevada, Indiana, and New Jersey. Draw your own conclusions
Your confused You probably have no clue who is carrying anyway Criminals have guns Guns aren't the issue Mental health is the issue We need better mental health (including you) Criminals want easy marks Criminals want you to just hand over your stuff I
It scares me. More guns can only mean more deaths. The myth of "good guys with guns" has been disproven more often than borne out. The Uvalde shooting is the saddest example. 😞
@Punxi Pop’s a veteran, knows how to use a gun. My brother’s a retired policeman. And my grandfather taught me how to use a gun (to my mother’s dismay). I remember my grandmother, who grew up in the bayou, had a rifle and knew how to use it (she was badass on so many levels).
I’m not anti-gun; it’s a tool that has very specific, often necessary uses. But not everyone should be able to acquire one, and the easy access has been disastrous.
I don’t know what’s happened. The very first school shooting I remember watching on the news was when Charles Whitman, killed 17, wounded 31 from the Texas University clock tower, before the police took him out. It was shocking and horrifying because it was unimaginable.
I’m not sure how we got to where we are now; when we hear about yet another mass shooting, sigh, shake our heads and keep going. It’s the norm now. People in other countries (like Canada) have guns, too, but somehow they’re not doing this.
@GuidanceCounselor DAs and prosecutors need to be tougher on criminals. One of the reasons the gun ban is effective in GB is that the use of a weapon during the committing of a crime bring additional penalties. DAs in US bargain down the crime by eliminating the gun charges. In one case in chicago a felon was given a lesser sentence even though he ha 19 elegal use of firearm charges. He was given probation.
Guns kill Americans because you want them. Deaths from cars are everywhere, because you like them. The dying from capitalism is also big and you like capitalism. Good riddance.
