I like the voice of Andrea Bocelli

helenS · 36-40, F
In the field of popular music? Frank Sinatra I'd say. There was a time in my life when I fell in love with that baritone voice. Wow what an expression of masculinity – even as an older man his voice was so sexy!
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Hard to answer a question like this since one style won't be comparable across another genre.
Unless you can find artists that covered more than the ones they're known for.

For me the stand outs are probably Otis Redding and Jimmy Ruffin.
But then I'm a Soul fan.

For all i know Jim Reeves or Paul Carrack or Paul Robeson might well be 'the greatest'.
But Unless there are recordings of them in different genres how can you make a comparison ?
Rabbit420 · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 I've gone through this argument with hundreds of people over best vocalist, best guitarist, best drummer and so on. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and everyone has one, but you can't "pigeon hole" all genres into one and you'll never get everyone to agree on one answer. You can't compare a Rock guitarist to a Flamingo guitarist or a Classical guitarist. Just as you can't compare a Rock singer to an Opera singer.
That’s like asking who would be the best spouse, or what is the most beautiful spot on earth.

Depends on what you’re looking for, doesn’t it?

Making a choice based solely on voice…

Otis Redding, Bobby Hatfield, Jim Reeves, Pavarotti, Freddie Mercury, Dan Vasc among the best since recording made preserving voices possible.

Who’s to say who was best before recording was possible?
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
I guess it depends upon someone taste. And the type of song. Robert Plant was pretty amazing. Axl rose. Sebastian Bach. Steve Perry.

@Jonjdw Jeff Tate from Queensreich
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
@Prison1203 I really love him in silent lucidity.
Prison1203 · 61-69, M
@Jonjdw nearly every song he has such a range I also like the lead singer of five finger death punch ,
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
My seventeen year old says Frank Sinatra
Way to many different types of music

Bon Scott for pure passion for rock

Freddy Mercury was Queen

I like Josh Groban, Adam Lambert, members from Il Divo, I'm sure there's more.
Very subjective. I can only list those whom I like best:

Otis Redding
Philippe Sly
Paul Robeson
Marvin Gaye
Jimmy Ruffin
Sting
Michael Franks
Andrea Bocelli
Simon Estes
helenS · 36-40, F
@bijouxbroussard Zero overlap 😐
Bocelli perhaps?
@helenS I like them all, and appreciate the genres they cover (the question didn’t specify).
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Depends on what style you're looking for, but Meatloaf and Jay Black are two contenders.
WanderlustCat · 36-40, M
I cant believe nobody’s mentioned Rick Astley!
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@WanderlustCat I definitely considered it. There's a reason Rick rolling became so popular. That song is objectively good, despite some of the extremely silly imagery. And he has an entire portfolio songs that are just as good if not better.

Freddy Mercury

Maybe Paul Rogers (Free/Bad Company)..

Maybe Steve Perry (Journey)...

SJD x
I'll always go with Freddie 🕺

There are far too many to just pick one. Each is unique.

DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@helenS only classical guitar now. Yet I have once played a wide variety of instruments decades ago.
helenS · 36-40, F
@DeWayfarer Any wind instrument?
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@helenS Yep. Junior high our marching band took sweepstakes over multiple highschools. I played third clarinet then.

Admittedly nothing really fancy, yet sweepstakes over highschools in southern California speaks for itself.

Definitely not a underpopulated area, even then.

@Oneofthestormboys A young Peter Gabriel perhaps. His "why don't you touch me now now now now now" was excellent. It worked only in the context provided by the band though.
