Watching a decent tribute band in a pub is a much better experience than watching the real thing in a massive stadium.

Some absolutely nail it too..
I love slapping pokies down the local
RSL on Sunday arvo..
best music to gamble too 馃

To me a band that plays others music well is great. But when they restrict it to one band, and play dressup, it's just cheese 馃

I do appreciate a good cover band

Also better than not seeing the band at all, because it no longer exists.

You hit the nail right on the head with that.

Some off the tribute bands are really good. 馃檪
Entwistle56-60, M
Yeah it is. I've seen quite a few.

Gotta love the artists that cover

True. People are actually listening...馃樂

Yeah facts

Disagree. I live in NYC, it's IMPOSSIBLE for me to be impressed with a tribute band

I'll always appreciate a good rendition of a song but it doesn't compare
helenS36-40, F
@Slade Ok you live in NYC.
Where I live there aren't even tribute bands 馃槓
Slade56-60, M
@helenS I understand. I have a friend far out on the forks of Long Island who just spent 4 years pretty much cloistered caring for 3 dying people. She's free now and her girlfriends take her out most nights and usually catch a cover band.

I'm delighted she's getting out and having fun. But it takes ALL my acting ability to sound impressed when she goes on about the covers 馃槢

That being said good music is good music and I appreciate it anywhere (even while intimate and my ears are being...blocked 馃槈 )

The key move is to follow bands who play small shows rather than giant stadium acts.

Tribute band?.

I've seen some really good tribute bands(I play in a few myself) and I've seen some absolute hacks. That said, I don't like stadium shows too much--seems so impersonal. But a lot of trib bands DO carry the torch and help keep the music in the forefront. This Sunday, I'm playing the City Winery in Boston with one of my bands, only a couple hundred seats. Superb sound, good food and wine, and NOT as expensive as going to see a national act.

I've been in Beatles, Stones, and Bowie tributes; others, like The Doors, Rush, and Van Halen, won't be playing again, so a good tribute is as good as it's gonna get.
uncalled456-60, M
@Slade I shall. It's usually up in The Loft at City Winery.

@uncalled4

All said the time I was in Laughlin, NV our casino had a Gilbert O'Sullivan tribute band headlining 馃ぃ

There was no way I was going to miss that guaranteed trainwreck! The hippies swaying and weeping to "alone again naturally" beat ANY dark comedy I've ever witnessed 馃ぃ馃挜

@Slade It's weird, back when I was looking for a booking agent, I found that EVERY band has a tribute band, even bands that have NO discernible hits...what the hell do they PLAY for 90 mins.? But there you go.
