Did You Ever Have A Toddler That Got Into Kitchen Cabinets & Tore Labels Off Of Canned Goods?

One lady posted on Facebook that her great-granddaughter did that. The lady opened up every can to see what was in them to use. I wouldn’t have done that, now she has to use up everything at once. And try to figure out recipes to use them in.

Years ago, the cans of peaches and pears had some sort of sport token on them that my brother was collecting. He would rip the labels off dozens of cans to find the right ones to complete his collection.

@meggie hopefully they were different sizes so you could tell them apart. I’d have a hissy and a half if anyone ever got into my canned food pantry and did that.

@cherokeepatti yes me too. I think he ended up with a free sport admission.

Ok! I know a lady that keeps 4 grandkids and she writes on top of the cans with a sharpie as to what's in it. I thought she was OCD. Turns out she's just loving and smart

@TexChik I knew someone who would mark the tops of cans with a Sharpie to designate the ones to use first after getting new supplies of groceries. Made it quicker than reading the exp. Dates.

I know somebody whos kids did that as a retaliation for being on restriction. I told her that her retaliation should be to have them each pick a can for dinner and to make sure all the cans in there are green beans.

@Adrift I loved green beans when I was little. Would eat every one put in front of me. I became the family’s green bean picker at the age of 3 and a half years old and we would have rows to pick and fill up a round metal bathtub most pickings. I did it till we moved off the farm

@cherokeepatti We used to eat a lot of canned spinach when I was a kid. I used to pour mountains of vinager on it to make it taste better.

@Adrift I hated that mushy mess. Nobody in my class would touch it and it would get thrown in the garbage. They finally learned that it’s not going to nourish children if they refuse to eat it. I love fresh or frozen spinach though

No...but when I was 4. I saw my older brother lit a piece a paper on fire and put it out.

The next morning, I woke up while my brother and mom asleep.

I webt to the kitchen trying to do the same thing what my brother did. Almost burnt the kitchen on fire but left a big black roasted kitchen floor. I dont remember my punishment was though

@FreestyleArt you probably blocked it out of your mind. I would have gotten my butt warmed good if I did such a thing

I wouldn't have done that, either...but maybe she really loves making a big mess in her kitchen! I know I do...🤣🤣🤣

@Sojournersoul To begin with most of that stuff in those cans I wouldn’t even buy…canned soups are loaded with mono sodium glutamate and consuming those causes me to have heart palpitations. Those canned carrots with other veggies would have a terrible taste after being canned so I wouldn’t buy those or those canned potatoes either. I would eat the greens as a veggie and the cranberry sauce with roast chicken.
@cherokeepatti I know, I was thinking the same thing
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Sojournersoul The older I get the less processed foods I can tolerate the flavor of not to mention the chemicals. I have canned new potatoes in quart jars, they had the pressure-canned flavor but in the midst of winter when my ex was out of construction jobs they were good to make hash browns with for breakfast or a side dish with dinner. I had to do that using up my stock of jars of home-canned food several winters in a row and was thankful I had them to eat instead of going hungry or begging food off of relatives.

My daughter!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@WillaKissing How many cans?
WillaKissing · 56-60
@cherokeepatti When she was little it was daily, and you would see her footprints in flour all over the pantry floor and shelves as she climbed around in there like a money, and the flour coated footprints leading out of the pantry when she was done. Emma did this from two to four years of age and when I came home from work every afternoon the wife then showed me the carnage and footprints with a laugh and smile on her face. I could not tell you the number of cans or bags of flour or bags of beans, but it was a constant event. It never happened on my days off because I played with and interacted with the kids.

But that all ended when I was slapped with, we need a divorce so I can be with my soulmate stuff Emma's four year of aging on a Thanksgiving Day.

We should all just eat out of one long bowl.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@JohnnySpot By bowl you meant “trough” didn’t ya?

That toddler knows what they are doing 😂
No, but my mother used to call me monkey, because I would climb the drawers as a toddler to get to the bananas on top of the fridge.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@NativePortlander1970 I hope she took photos of that
