To whom, when?
To my career, and any years ago, such shows as Mr. WIZARD, See it Now, Medic were of profound influence to me and many researchers at major medical research centers. As to entertainment, the show Omnibus and Ed Sullivan were ground breakers.
Recently, i would go with Stephen Colbert and Rachel Madow, on one side, i will show my bias by lumping the far right together as just tyst.

@Sidewinder I never hear of Coombs until now. He must have only been on Canadian media. Fred Rogers was from my children's era, not mine as is the case with Bill Nye, i should have added Sagan, although i only ran into him as an adult.

@samueltyler2 Ernie Coombs (1927-2001) was originally from Lewiston, Maine, but moved to Canada and became a naturalized citizen up until the time of his death.
In the 1960's he was close friends with Fred Rogers and even worked as an assistant puppeteer on a television program entitled The Children's Corner, which Fred Rogers hosted.
Eventually, Ernie became the host of a television program called Butternut Square, which ran from 1964 to 1967.
After Butternut Square, Ernie Coombs created and hosted the show, Mr. Dressup, which ran on Canadian television from 1967 to 1996.

Worldwide I think the Bob Ross programme has had the most effect.
Even if you haven't seen it yourself, you've probably met someone who did and tried spreading happy thoughts or a smile your way.
Edit: I hadn't even heard of him until a few years ago, and I still feel the effect he had on people. (Norwegian living in Norway btw)

@SunshineGirl I have not watched enough of shows like this!
Punxi · F
Have only seen reruns of course but over all, "I Love Lucy" kinda devised the blueprint for TV shows itself.
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@Punxi good one

The original THE ODD COUPLE AND THE HONEYMOONERS, definition of situation comedy.
IM5688 · 70-79, M
@therighttothink50 Two great comedic shows when comedy was clean and not rude, crass or insulting to anyone. I still use lines from their shows in every day life today.

Married with Children lol. prolly what spawned the MGTOW movement

@Penny I never got in to that one although I like most of the cast. The comedy seemed exaggerated and I just didnt buy in. If that’s what it influenced, I’m glad I didn’t watch!
Penny · 46-50, F
@4thdimensiondream i used to watch it lol. but yeah it pretty much did i think

Of the ones you listed I'd agree with your choice of Cronkite and the nightly news... his breaking-news coverage of the JFK assassination as well as the nightly horrors of the Viet Nam war were memorable, eye-opening and as honest as could be expected unlike today with the "alternate facts" and Right versus Left takes on reality.
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@rinkydinkydoink I think everybody trusted him. Back then to be a network anchor you really had to earn it.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@4thdimensiondream most were truly journalists, most today are purely news readers.
rinkydinkydoink · M
@samueltyler2
YES - - who gets to call themselves journalists? This is probably the only profession that has so many wannabes rather than actual journalism school graduates. How many fake doctors, lawyers, dentists, etc are getting away with such nonsense? If caught, they'd be locked up but quick.

It was the first show about a high school that looked similar to my high school.
