Casablanaca To have and have not The Trouble with Harry The man who came to dinner Shennendoah Rope Notorious Bringing Up Baby People will Talk Arsenic and Old Lace
@Pretzel Some really good ones there! I need to watch a few of those again. Arsenic and Old Lace, especially. Those kooky old ladies! Haha. Funny, but I have never seen Casablanca - I know it has to be a good movie. i really must watch it!
Citizen Kane The "Thin Man" movies. Hope/Crosby's 'On the Road' movies
And there is one that is on my mind these days because of one scene. The movie is "High Society", from 1956. At the end of the movie, there is a scene which addresses the subject of consent, and how a man should conduct himself when the woman he is with gets drunk. I think a lot of men today ought to listen to Frank Sinatra's little speech about "there are rules about that sort of thing." From the "unenlightened" 1950's.
@DrWatson Myrna Loy's dresses and her and Powell's witty badinage makes me hanker for an adulthood decades earlier (while conveniently evading the flu epidemic, WW I, the market crash and the dust bowl, but after the development of reliable anesthesia.)
The Marx brothers are my favorite comedies. I never hear anyone speak of them anymore. But i admit thier art has seen its day. You have to aquire a taste for them and i doubt young people would understand them. But its amazing when you read about them. Hatdly any of thier movies script gets used. They adlib a goog portion of it and is hilarious to old folks for sure.
I have watched all of them over and over through the years and I still catch jokes grouch throws out that I never caught before. That man was like Williams with his brain firing out stuff faster than a normal person could think. That what made ji tv show so good. You bet Your Life. I love the 1930s. Always have. I love how dreamlike those films were
1. Dinner at eight 2. Angel (With Marlena Dietrich) 3. Blonde Venus 4. Dancing lady (Love the soundtrack) 5. The Women 6. My man Godfrey 7. Search for Beauty 8.Divorcee
That last one- Divorcee with Norma Shearer is a must watch! She conveys such vulnerability. And I love it when these fabulous movies feel human for a change.
