only hospital series i could stand was dr.house.... but thats because house was special

bijouxbroussard · F Pinned Comment
There was another medical drama around the same time—"Chicago Hope". I liked that show, too, but they were kind of in second place, on competing stations (ER was NBC, Hope was CBS). Both premiered in 1994, ER ran until 2009, Hope until 2000.
Chicago Hope even punched up its intro theme in the 2nd season to match ER’s:

@bijouxbroussard we had that too.
Couldn't get into it.
Liked St.Elsewhere....apart from the final episode!
And been watching Greys Anatomy since it started.
Liked New Amsterdam too.
And watch Chicago Med( and the other two Chicagos)
And over here we have Casualty which has been running since the eighties and is on about 40 weeks of the year.
And one guy has been it since episode one!

I've never been able to get into medical shows like ER, scrubs, House, or Grey's anatomy, etc.
There are a ton of cool medical shows out there.
I've enjoyed episodes here and there. but I can't watch every episode, season after season.
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@Jacko1971 My parents watch Doc Martin! I've seen an episode of the first season of it. It was pretty good. He's kind of an adorable grumpy old man, isn't he? I kind of liked the idea of the character having to get used to being a doctor all over again
🤭
Scribbles · 36-40, F
@InOtterWords that's cool. My thing that I get into are documentaries or travel shows.
@Jacko1971 Yes he is. I’ve seen him interviewed and he’s so warm, friendly and animated—total opposite of Dr. Ellingham’s personality. 😄
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
Before that,m there was a show about another hospital, called "St. Elsewhere"
My older sister was a fan, and when she became a doctor she worked at a hospital in Greenwich Village called St. Vincent's (which closed due to bankruptcy in 2010). The doctors called it "St. Elsewhere", and once they had a resident named Dr. Victor Ehrlich (which was the name of the character played by Ed Begley, Jr. on the TV show).
@DragonFruit I remember St. Elsewhere ! The first time I remember seeing Denzel Washington.
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@DragonFruit I think Howie Mandel was on that show also I think , and was was Denzel Washington also on it ? for some reason he's coming to mind. Hey and don't forget about Trapper John MD. And before that was emergency in the early 70s when they had the station wagon ambulances. LOL and all the doctors smoked LOL
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
Of course I remember er. What about that one about Alaska it was like a quirky little weird comedy about a doctor and a DJ or something. Northern Lights or something like that or the great white North. It was entertaining though I wonder what happened to the cast of that show I know the mayor or this town boss whatever he was was the guy from the first war games movie. With Matthew Broderick and was it Elizabeth shoe?? . No, no, no, it was a creepy one from Breakfast Club right? Her name is at the tip of my tongue. Anyway I'm way off track and way off subject. The dude I'm talking about was the NORAD General and he was like the town boss and I think it was an hour-long show but it was like a comedy. I just realized that. they don't really make hour long comedy shows do they?. That Alaska one's the only one I can think of actually. Northern Lights? What's that what it was called
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard YESSSSSS!! Thank you. I know the DJ was in The Fat Greek Wedding movie but I don't know what any other ones did oh wait, the old blonde guy who was married to the young blonde girl, I've seen him in some movies he plays the same role pretty much in every movie but sometimes it's a bad guy maybe

The funny thing is I cannot remember when it was on . what years or anything like that. I'm that way with a couple songs too . was it already in syndication by the time ER came on? I didn't see any Primetime TV in the 90s because I worked at night while I was in college. And then I graduated I started my apprenticeship and went to school at night and work days for the rest of the 90s LOL maybe that's why my time frames are all screwed up
@Jayciedubb It aired from 1990 to 1995 on CBS.
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard really? Was it also in syndication before it went off the air? I remember seeing it like on a daily basis with my then girlfriend, now and since forever ago,, wife
during my transition time between college graduate and construction worker which was like the first half of 95 . Anyway, it's not important and I just realized it's taking me through a part of my life that was really not good. I think I need to switch Memory Lanes LOL hey what about that show police story in the '80s right? the one Kevin Spacey was in for about a chapter. He had an incestuous relationship with his sister and they were like criminals or something. they weren't permanent fixtures. they were just, a few episodes or maybe a season or something like that but Ken Wall was in all of them . Ken Whall (sp?) Looks a little bit like Mr Big from the what zit called , Sex in the City .. lol I almost called it Golden Girls sorry ladies . Hey wait a minute, are Mr Big and Ken Wall the same guy? Anyway I wanted to mention also China Beach and there was another Vietnam show. It was like platoon or something it was an hour long show I think police story was the one with Dennis what's his name in it. You know the guy from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. He's actually really an ex cop. Dennis Farina I think. Police story might have been the show he was on I don't know what the Ken Wall show was called.. are The Simpsons still on? Thank you Tracy Ullman.. I bet she never saw that one coming LOL. A little filler cartoon between skits and commercials ending up being maybe the longest running show on Prime Time in history while her variety show lasted maybe a season or two. It was a funny show though it's just there's no way any show with real humans on it is going to last that long. If a shows going to last as long as the Simpsons, it's going to have to be a cartoon
Yep....watched it.
Was on Channel 4 here....
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales ....wait, what? You have NFL Game Pass? I didnt think y'all liked American football over there? ..or are you on loan like my sister was? Are you American? ..no, or you wouldn't be amused by the ad..

Hmm.. thats cool. Who's your team? .. let me guess, New England? LOL ..
@Jayciedubb Packers....it's why I have the game pass..I can see all their games.
Been on TV here since 1982 but before that I listened to the American Forces Network which used to boom in here from Germany.
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@TheSirfurryanimalWales thats right. I almost forgot about AFN. I also overlooked the time difference. I was stationed in (west) Germany in the mid 80s. Monday morning formations after the super bowl were always postponed until 0900 ..and no PT cuz we'd all still be half drunk.. lol

Im an SF native transplanted to Oakland. Until recently, my heart has been torn. With the Raiders and the Warriors leaving and the A's on their way out the door, my heart is just broken💔 ..

Lol i just realized that the "Traitors" have been rebuilding for 20 years now. They could have cloned a winning team by now, ..literally wtf 😅🤣😂
That show made me want to become a doctor 😅
I remember watching it in highschool and thinking…i wanna be that cool like them.
@BloviatingBuffoon Very cool. 🥹
minxy · 46-50, F
Anthony Edwards' death was my first crushing "television character death". To this day it's difficult to enjoy this song.

@minxy Yes ! I remember this scene. 🥺
ReneeT · 61-69, M
That was one of my favorite shows from the 80's. The ending surprised a lot of people but I thought it worked well
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
@ReneeT I'm Hippie and my wife is Venus

Do them names ring a bell with you on CDH
ReneeT · 61-69, M
@HumanEarth It's been a while but the names do sound familiar. Are you still on there?
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
@ReneeT Yes we are both in chat now
Barny52 · 56-60, M
O yes think it was on a Friday night some good tv came out of states back then, hill street blues, cheers and mork and Mindy
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@Barny52 ER was on Thursdays at 10:00.. that's when NBC had that killer Thursday night lineup that I always missed because I was an apprentice at the time and going to night school that was part of my 5-year Plumbing apprenticeship.. ER was the only one I was able to see you because that's what time I get home from school. Anyway, Memory Lane.

I'm thinking maybe Hill Street Blues might have been wrapping up when ER came out and Mork and Mindy was way before that like 10 years or something Anthony Robin Williams had already earned in Academy Award by the time ER came out. And cheers definitely '80s and I think it came into the '90s, didn't it? I know it was on for a long time. Mork and Mindy came off of Happy Days believe it or not I don't know how they explain the time difference but yeah, Mork made his first appearance on Happy Days before the famous jumping of the shark I believe
bookerdana · M
The cast alone was outstanding,it was witty and well written and ..Dr Craig and Victor Ehrlich 😀
@bookerdana That’s from St.Elsewhere. I like William Daniels (Dr. Craig). And I remember that was one of the first roles of Ed Begley, Jr. (Erlich). He had a guest appearance on MASH.
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
I believe this was after Anthony Edwards was in Top Gun.
@Jacko1971 That’s right.
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@Jacko1971 and Revenge of the Nerds 1 and 2 and however many else there were
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
@Jayciedubb I think I saw the first of those when I was a teenager. I don't remember much about it. I gather it had Porky's vibes to it. The only other Anthony Edwards fim I saw had him singing a Beach Boys song. I don't remember the name of the film.
Yes. I had no control over the television so I watched what my mom and granny liked. Luckily they had good taste.
I loved it when it came out and loved it even more when I re-watched the series recently. Such a great show !
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Lol my tween hormones had crushes on too many of those actors 😅
@Starcrossed Oh, yes. 😅
I've never watched all of it but I remember it from when I was a young teen.
Was that with George Clooney in it??
@Soossie Yes, that was the one. 😊
@bijouxbroussard

I watched it sometimes not always …
I caught bits and pieces of it back in the day. It was very good.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Vaguely remember it existed, but never really watched it. :(
Yep, my wife & I loved that show; at least the first 4 or 5 seasons.
MellyMel22 · F
[c=BF0080]Yes! It might be the first one that got me into the hospital series 🤭 [/c]
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
I liked it a lot when it was originally on.
ER was based on an English programme called Casualty which began in 1986.

Casualty is what we used to call the ER when someone said that the term Casual means people come in for really minor things, the term is now A&E here for Accident and Emergency.... the programme Casualty has just finished its 37th season
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
@InOtterWords does Charlie still work there?
@Jacko1971 next season is his last
@bijouxbroussard i'm not sure for usa
Jacko1971 · 51-55, M
Its what made George Clooney famous.
MissingLink · 51-55, M
Watched it all the time
BLP11520 · 61-69, M
Yeah I watched it
Dino11 · M

I loved ER, especially the original cast
HannahSky · F
I liked ER
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
Yes. It was a favorite of mine.
SW-User
Yes, of course, this is the show that made George Clooney famous, thanks for posting it, it's a trip down memory lane
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I remember watching it. I was quite young but I did. It was a good show.
empanadas · 31-35, M
My mom loved that show
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@empanadas Dude, that's harsh. @bijouxbroussard 😆
empanadas · 31-35, M
@Harmonium1923 I didn't mean like that but yeah , I already call her the hippie aunty.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@empanadas Just don't call her "ma'am".
