When someone buys a bottle for your table, what does that mean?

I just saw it on a tv show. Is that a rich person thing? I feel like it communicates, "Im rich and Im watching you."

Pardon me madam? The gentleman in dark glasses at the sinister shady table in the corner has bought you a bottle of liquid that lowers your inhibitions and impairs your reasoning. He urges you to drink it and to feel that you owe him something.

BUT MAYBE I'M JUST CYNICAL
Rutterman · 46-50, M
I've never actually seen that happen, but I'm guessing it means whoever bought the bottle is trying to make a positive impression on you and is interested in getting to know you better.

It just means a bottle of wine that everyone at the table can drink from rather than a bottle JUST FOR YOU.

@CountScrofula I know what it LITERALLY means. I dont know what the gesture means!

Just means getting a whole bottle of liquor - partially convenient and partially a flex
Selah ·
@SW-User id send it back and ask for the money.
SW-User
@Selah lol yeah I’d think of doing the same

I'd be wondering how I ended up in a club first off...

@Starcrossed restaurant
It means they want your attention. Either way, free drinks.

Yup. You guessed it. :)

the mystery man/woman is trying to find an angle to gain access to you and make you feel obligated to treat them like VIPs. at best: it's rude. at worst: it's sinister. best advice is protect yourself. always always decline (politely.) If the man/woman is persistent, ask for the manager, or safely leave. take care of yourself
Selah ·
@tenente wth? im scared
TrunkZ · 56-60, M
@tenente does the same apply to buying a pizza for the table? 🤔🤔
