Worse parts of having ocd.

I hate having ocd. At times it gets so bad.
I spent almost 2 hours cleaning my restroom last night. I knew it was clean but i just couldn't stop. I just keep cleaning and scrubbing obviously. My therapist says he'd rather focus on my tourettes and ptsd first before he focuses on it. Says it's not as important.

In any job, I think people tend to focus on things other than the main problem.

Couple reasons - it's like people try to prolong the BS for job security. In your therapy case, yeah he is just trying to get more money out of you.

Also maybe people are lazy and want to work on the irrelevant problems just to feel like they accomplished something without having to deal with the real issues.
We probably have all seen this at our own jobs - some big important project needs worked on yet people are focused on some dumb crap like how the coffee station is set up.

Maybe dealing with OCD is harder than tourettes and ptsd?

@CestManan with my tourettes i have loud outburst and yell. Maybe he feels because of this it's more important to focus on

Seems like some overall treatment for anxiety would help all of them

Do you have a conscious thought once its clean, "This is clean now", or more subconscious?
Renaci · 36-40
@Coralmist It more like a feeling. Like the feeling that it's safe now and your brain will finally stop harassing you about it. At least that is how mine works.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Renaci @Cigarguy101 Its tough...I guess if its conscious or subconscious, and you know its clean, you can say
" HEY!QUIET. You are not running this, and you're wrong. Bye byeee." Ive read for people with crippling worry like me, and OCD is similar, To quiet that bully critic. You talk back to it over and over, until YOU are the one making the decisions.
I used to do that when I cooked chicken. I was always worried I would undercook it. But I've gotten to be a pro at it.

@Spoiledbrat not sure what this has to do with cleaning my restroom for 2 hour

Your therapist needs to focus on your OCD.
I have OCD too, and the ideal treatment is first making you realize your cognitive distortions along with mindfulness techniques and then exposure and response prevention. It's all that will help.
Renaci · 36-40
Tourettes is just more annoying but ocd and PTSD can be life destroying.
Cigarguy101 · 41-45, M
@Renaci ive almost been arrested because of my outbursts. Now i wear a medical alert bracelet.
