What is your opinion on the "love yourself" movement?

It's great for business, I guess.

But seriously, I do get that it's important to think of our own peace and tranquility in a world where we're being pulled in all directions with responsibilities and expectations. Sometimes it's nice just to shut off from all the noise and indulge in something rewarding. Yeah, it can often be materialistic or hedonistic, but ultimately it's a way of reaffirming that our happiness matters too.

Like with anything, moderation is key.

I didn't even know it is a movement. But it takes growth to realize self-love is a thing and a necessity to becoming. To embrace and grow with the self instead of hating and ridiculing oneself.

But sometimes, humans are a sad bunch of folks. We do have these things called emotions and affections and the desire to be loved, all which can make loving oneself a hard task.
I'm kinda sick of it. People have taken it WAY too far. Corporations are monetizing from it now, so to me it's lost it's real meaning and value.

We went too far...

Forgot we share the planet and we're stronger together.

Humans do what humans do though.
That self love and compassion is very needed, but not sold as a movement. So many things in our span of life in culture is expressed in how it can be sold. Is buying into a program about self-care and love, where you send $30 a month for a subscription to their wellness channel, self love? Can they teach you?

Is going to yoga, self love? Is listening to endless podcasts saying you should be this way, compassion or love?

Is buying into an idea, self love and care?

I support loving yourself, but some days my self makes it real hard. Like… why are we like this?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@mindstruggle For me, it is easier when I am real hard.
I do it every day and twice on Sundays.

Yes, we should love ourselves, but not smotheringly so. We should treat ourselves with kindness, forgiveness and respect.
faery · 31-35, F
I didn't know about his 'movement'. I've always adored myself
Onryo · 22-25, F
Impossible task
YoMomma ·
I don't entirely agree with it

I think it was on the right track, but it's become toxic. If you love and accept every part of yourself, then there's no room to improve. You stagnate.
DDonde · 31-35, M
I've never heard of it as a movement.
Just as advice.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Have had problems with going to extremes in anything.

Just another form of extremism.

Religious people are as well extremist. By them only heterosexual monogamy works and only that.
supersnipe · 61-69, M
I'd never heard of it!
Ducky · 31-35, F
It makes me hate myself even more.
Reject · 31-35, M
It’s not a movement. People have been practicing this for as long as we’ve existed.

Not christian
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@val70 Good. That's one point in its favor.
If you cant love yourself how can anyone love you
FoolishLuna · 56-60, F
@Shybutwilling2bfriends For me I feel better when I'm helping others. It helps me get over myself and out of my head. But..I only do if if I'm moved too, not because I should. It's a balance.
Rationalization from the rejected. 🙄
Magenta · F
I'm sick of it. It's like some ultra over hyped fanatic trend that gets constantly parroted. Humans are already self absorbed.

CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
That the word love is misplaced.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
I'm agin it, dagnabit!

Yeah, I guess it’s good but when does it become narcissism?
