Anybody got any tips on how to deal with a bipolar,m/schizophrenic person?

I think we have a family member who’s like that 🤷🏻‍♂️

Take it as it comes, treat them like any other person, walk away when they have an episode. That's the best I can offer. I'd suggest professional help, but that doesn't always solve the issue. My niece shows signs of Bipolar disorder and it's a lot, but what can you do besides let them know you're here for them and let them gather themselves. Have patience and try to learn more about what they're going through. Patience and understanding is necessary. There isn't much you can do. A bipolar person is just going to be that way. They can improve, but in my opinion it's not going away.

@IamBack I will check! Yeah, I wasn't on here as often as before and most of the time I would get a lot of creeps in my inbox so I just hardly ever look anymore, but I will check your message.

Its tough. I have 2 that are bipolar. The best advice is just be patient and understanding. Knowing their symptoms will help too. I think there are 4 different kinds of bi polar and each has like 2 phases. Either manic or depression. They can be either or. I would talk to a doctor and then research their condition.

@IamBack Well in that case they are going to have bad episodes, it's not a matter of if but when. I have bipolar 2 and I stick to my treatment because I know I can't live a well adjusted life without it. Since they have bipolar 1/schizophrenia they will lose touch with objective reality, they will be a danger to themselves and others. When you are aware you have a mental illness and you give up on treatment you are accountable for your actions. Discovering you have a mental illness is like having to adapt to life all over again, like a child. Except this time the growth has to be voluntery, it's not automatic. You have to stick through experiencing side effects from different medications as you try to find the right combo. You have to embrace therapy. You have to learn how to live a functional well adjusted life as a mentally ill person. I think people give up on treatment because they haven't accepted their diagnosis, they don't want to be different, they want to be"normal"and instead of learning the skills they need to learn to live "normal" lives they just live in denial of their reality and continue to self sabotage. People who know they need treatment but don't stick to tend to be in denial, until they accept the truth of their illness they will be incapable of a stable life.
