@IamBack Well in that case they are going to have bad episodes, it's not a matter of if but when. I have bipolar 2 and I stick to my treatment because I know I can't live a well adjusted life without it. Since they have bipolar 1/schizophrenia they will lose touch with objective reality, they will be a danger to themselves and others. When you are aware you have a mental illness and you give up on treatment you are accountable for your actions. Discovering you have a mental illness is like having to adapt to life all over again, like a child. Except this time the growth has to be voluntery, it's not automatic. You have to stick through experiencing side effects from different medications as you try to find the right combo. You have to embrace therapy. You have to learn how to live a functional well adjusted life as a mentally ill person. I think people give up on treatment because they haven't accepted their diagnosis, they don't want to be different, they want to be"normal"and instead of learning the skills they need to learn to live "normal" lives they just live in denial of their reality and continue to self sabotage. People who know they need treatment but don't stick to tend to be in denial, until they accept the truth of their illness they will be incapable of a stable life.
