Seriously, we are going through a strange period at the moment. Historically, I have slept on the right side, through 43 years of marriage, 10 years of my subsequent partnership, and until recently with the cats. Sporadically, the male would come in and claim the left side, next to my torso, and the female would claim the right side by my feet. Mostly the female; the male preferred the couch. Occasionally, both which would get a little uncomfortable if they both started boring in and I felt like I was in a vise.
Then I had the new radiation injection treatment, and was supposed to stay at least 3 feet away from other living things for at least 3 days because I was radioactive. I wondered how I was going to convey that to the cats, but the sensed or smelled something, and stayed away on their own. But since then, they have been very cuddling & supportive, and bed partners every night.
But the interesting twist has been that the male has staked out the right side of the bed, next to my torso, which forces me into the middle of the bed. The female refuses to be on the same side as him, so has moved to the left, but up from my feet to my shoulders. So we now take up the whole bed, but unlike before when they both came to bed with me, they aren't boring in; leaving a little maneuvering room so I don't feel in a vise and can turn over now and then.

I have a small double bed so there is mostly only room for me. I like to sprawl out but I sleep on my right side, have always preferred it but now I can’t sleep on my left side at all since a pinched nerve and tennis elbow in my left arm. So right side is the only way to go.
