Is cross-dressing a mental health disorder?

Don't go looking this up on some Psychology website. Just give me your opinion, I don't want facts. I want your honest opinions

Well, it’s not an opinion question. There’s an actual answer for this and no, cross dressing is not a mental health disorder. It’s not recognized as such, discussed as such or treated as such.

@HumanEarth Yeah, I started with a Minolta about a thousand years ago as a teen and have been brand lowal over the years (though I do have a very nice Canon DSL).

The ghost photos are interesting. There's a place for a comeback of those somewhere.

@Graylight Someone told me, that the new DSLR can do double exposures now

Here is what a bad triple exposure looks like

@HumanEarth I'll have to check it out. I love playing around with new concepts and techniques.

It’s a moot point because although people can debate gender/sexual orientation until they’re blue in the face, clothes and who should be wearing what, is definitely just a social construct.

I don't think so, I see crossdressing as a personal choice.

I have nothing against it

I have a husband that crossdresses and I'm cool with it.

It isn't anymore, but as recent as the 1990s, it was considered one. At that point, it was removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which is used to diagnose mental disorders. But....at this point, it's not....but if the individual is experiencing any trauma due to the characteristic, then that condition could be considered a mental health condition.

No. If we had a society that started with men also wearing lipsticks and dresses and that all clothes are unisex and no gender stereotype constructs, we'd realize the disorder is the system we've all been manipulated into, not the people.

@Queendragonfly I love your opinion

Transvestic Disorder still appears in the DSM-V. However, it's not a mental disorder. Instead, transvestic disorder falls under the umbrella term of paraphilia, any atypical sexual thoughts or erotic behavior.

This is the crucial element required for a diagnosis: One's fantasies, sexual urges or behaviors cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational or other areas of functioning.

So, no opinions. It's been analysed and a decision rendered. Whether one agree with it or not is another things.
I wouldn't call it a mental disorder, but I think of it more as an addiction, like porn. We know we shouldn't, but we like it and do it anyway.
@Graylight I refer you back to [@HumaEarth]'s question: "Just give me your opinion, I don't want facts. I want your honest opinions"

That's exactly what I wanted. I wanted a person opinion. I wanted their view point. Not a view point or opinion from someone else.

Granted me and Guardian are friends. He knows an awful lot about me like a close friend would and I respect his opinion to give to me straight without sugar coating it.
@HumanEarth Thanks, Bud!

The answer to this question depends on WHY a person is cross-dressing. There is no question that some do it as part of a gender identification issue and there are definitely others for whom it is a fetish based infatuation. Both could be part of a mental health disorder.

@Chickie So small and so sad. Is it hard being so terrified of the world?

@Chickie Well, you're either frightened or oblivious. You choose.

Yes and no.

You may be under stress. And this is denial.

You may actually be trapped in a body of the opposite sex.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@SW-User And none of those criterion spell out a disorder

Are you nuts, I'm no way trapped in the wrong gender. Just because I choose to wear women's clothing 24/7 don't make me transgender.

I love being a man, no periods, no craps, I can piss outside easily, I love my upper body strength, I like having a beard

Why does everyone think just because I prefer women's wear over men's that I must be transgender.

To tell you the truth I hate that word transgender
SW-User
@HumanEarth If I am nuts, so be it.

Says it all really, a man in a suit is nuts, but a man in a dress is not.

@Lilnonames What just one word, nothing more to say on it
