Why is London nightlife so terrible?

In the north, places like Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle and Liverpool you can party hard into the early hours of the next day.

But in London you can only buy their ridiculously overpriced drink until midnight. And on a weekday only until 10:30pm

London might be alright for attracting tourists but it’s become an incredibly boring place after dark. Frankly my favourite thing about it is the train heading home.

I’m never at ease enough to be out in London after 9pm. It’s not home.
Too many Muslims pushing sharia maybe?

A lot of it is down to the large area covered by pubs, tube train journey times. I’ve drank in London a lot but then go on to specific clubs until early hours and then usually taxi to hotel. I’m originally from Newcastle and nightlife there is great, however it’s all condensed into a small ish area. Glasgow is great, Liverpool and Manchester are good as well. The other part to consider is that all places outside of London it’s local people, with odd visitor, London is a complex group of people from all over the world, they don’t party like northerners do. London is good but disposable income and other factors such as area play a part to reduce how good it can be.

Always been expensive but not heard about closing early its not like that in rest of country but we have lost lots of pubs

Manchester is party town. Had many great nights there.

The Licensing act of 1988 extended Pub opening hours in England from 11am until 11pm , every day. Bars and clubs can obtain extensions until between 2am and 5am.

@ArtieKat Yeah. But that doesn’t explain why the pubs shut at 10:30 and why the clubs are all closed by midnight.

@WintaTheAngle I've not been in London at night for a long time so I can't say I have recent knowledge. It very much depends on which area of London you are referring to: the City itself was always quiet at night and weekends so places would close early - but that was always an exception.

I remember that pubs used to have to shut by 10.30 on a Sunday and probably midnight on Saturdays but that’s pretty normal. I remember being in plenty of clubs tilll the early hours of the morning. Has all that changed?

i haven't been to London for several years, but the last time I was there, I found no reasons to complain about the night life! 😌
PS Even though I enjoyed Cardiff a lot more!

Too large a catchment area. I used to work with people who lived across most of England. So getting home if you're outside the tube/bus network is a nightmare.

Gee I thought London would have the best nightlife!
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@JimboSaturn Compared to other major British cities it’s very tame.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I heard there's a terrible crime rate there, isn't that the reason? 😅
@CrazyMusicLover The crime rate is worse than other English cities but still safe than most cities in the US.

Then stay in the North.

any place that serves tourists turns into a drunk fest

@GothicRainbow Anywhere except London apparently.

Erm, where the heck are you going out in London? I lived there not so long ago and it was easy to get a late drink.
Newcastle is only busy on a Saturday.
It can be expensive if you dont know where to go. But then, Ive lived here forever and dont know any different 😶 We did dinner and drinks, two of us, meal was just over 100 and drinks were 70ish.
