What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done?

Have you ever stepped outside of your comfort zone and done something daring or adventurous? Maybe it was skydiving, bungee jumping, or traveling to a remote location. What was the experience like, and what did you learn from it?

At 57 I fought in a full contact black belt tournament. I lost in the finals to someone less than half my age, neither of which was too much of a shock - his age and the fact I lost.

They gave me this humorously large trophy and asked what I wanted engraved on it. I said, “Bucket List”. The woman stared at me and said, “ I’ve never heard that before.” I said, “I know.”

The experience was a rush. I learned you can do anything you want, regardless of your age - for the most part.

More importantly I learned respect. There were a couple times I felt like I got hit by a baseball bat versus an actual punch (even though the gloves were 16oz). I did get a big cheer from the crowd, but lost fairly on points.

The next day I came in to run a sales meeting and got a standing ovation when I entered the room. I was really taken aback. I didn’t think anyone cared or even knew, other than I texted my buddy a pic of the stupidly large 3-4ft trophy. People notice more than you think.

What I recalled learned the most however… chase your dreams.

Honestly the most adventurous thing I have ever done is crawl out of the hole I was hiding in inside my own mind. Those can become infinitely deep. It took some coaxing from loving people who became my adoptive parents , but they convinced an abused and terrified little girl to crawl out of there and push back against ptsd and fight for her rightful place in the world. I still don't know how I did it. 😉

@TexChik God Bless you.

I have done so many things in my life that defied death while other's perished including my son that came home and is one of the 22 veterans a day we lose to suicide in the United States. 11 major surgeries from my career to two on my spine so I would not be paralyzed from the waist down. Just too much to pick just one, or the most of any of them, and unless you have been to war there is nothing for me to describe, I can't, and I won't. Losing my son was my worst having had the same path and experiences.

What I learned is to live my life to the fullest for the ones I lost along the way that do not have the chances that I have to live my life to the fullest.

I’ve always had this adventurous spirit. I was more active in pursuing different things when I was 15 years younger than I do now.

Bungee jumping - done.’ Sky diving was on my list but I backed out last minute. I tried white water rafting. Cave exploration was another thing. Swimming with whale sharks was fun.

Travelling to new or even remote locations is a common practice until now. Nothing compares to the feeling of experiencing a place for the first time by yourself. All your senses are acutely aware of your surroundings. You get to immerse in all of it more fully.

My most memorable: I was stationed in Jakarta for work at that time. With a small backpack, I flew from Jakarta to Yogyakarta on a Friday night. Explored the Borobudur temples for the weekend and flew back to Jakarta Sunday evening.
Went to a XXX theater. Walked around nude (except for my high heels). for about 2 hours.

I spent a couple of months last summer touring England, I left all my male clothes behind and dressed pretty all day every day.

What I learned was that all my fears of people's reactions were unfounded. I was treated with courtesy everywhere I went, and on a few occasions complimented by strangers passing in the street!

Sure! I have scuba dived in Tahiti, rock climbed in Crete, and kayaked in Iceland! All great fun!

Had an aerobatic ride in a vintage open-cockpit Stearman biplane (had to wear a parachute, just in case)

Rappelled in Junior ROTC in high school

Spelunking where I had to crawl on my stomach through a tiny passage complete with a shallow layer of cold water
