When the power goes out. Are you immediately concerned about the lights or the WiFi?

CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
My unsaved file I was working on. 😑
Elessar · 26-30, M
@helenS Well, in the case of emojis is true no?
helenS · 36-40, F
@Elessar Absolutely!
/usr/bin/perl -e 'print length(q(🌷💋🌷))'
returns "12" 😏
So it's 4 bytes each
@CrazyMusicLover That's why I like my laptop, but when I had my desktop I had an APC power system.

The generator kicks in and we soon have lots of company.
perceptivei · 36-40, F
Lights... because, it's the first thing I notice.

Plus, I'm more concerned about the power to charge my phone, my food in the refrigerator, being able to cook, my clock (as I don't have a clock without power currently).
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@perceptivei And who knows what is lurking around in the dark! Lights first for me.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
No, I got books.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Neither. The central heating and the contents of my fridge/freezer 🙄
HumanEarth · 56-60, M
We don't have any of that modern stuff. For heat we make firewood and burn it. We want cooler, we open Windows
HumanEarth · 56-60, M
The Internet I could give two shits about. I care less about it more in the winter.

My goal is to make sure my family don't freeze to death and die. So shelter, heat, lights and a way to cook are my goals.

I have crap loads of these

That will cover lights

[image deleted]This is our heat in the winter. We already used these. We have 3 of them throughout the farm.

For emergency cooking needs. We have a wood cooking stove with oven in the shed.
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
I have a few USB rechargeable lanterns, so lights aren’t an issue. Entertainment, i.e. internet, is another issue altogether
JovialMoose · 46-50, M
This is me we're talking about... I start thinking about the food in the freezers and fridge.

The lights with the contents of the fridge/freezer a close second.
HumanEarth · 56-60, M
Helen same here; Northern Wisconsin USA here
helenS · 36-40, F
@HumanEarth Lots of snow already where you live? We've had snow since mid November, but now it's getting warmer and the rain is pouring into the snow 😐
HumanEarth · 56-60, M
@helenS We get real heavy snow fall later like middle December(sometimes middle November) , but snow stays till April -May. We average about 100 inches per winter.

The coldest I seen it with wind chill is 75°F below zero for a winter

If I'm in an online game event, and my friends are counting on me, yeah definitely wifi.

I have tons of data to use from my phone internet but it won't handle a big online game. Only smaller things like SW.
SlaveEt · 36-40, F
During the day? Nope. At night? If I'm not asleep then yeah the lights are kinda important. If we were sleeping then it's my family's medical equipment I worry about. That and the fridge and freezer.
My PC if it was on, and the fridge/freezer if it lasts long. I have mobile internet though, so I don't need wifi. (Although I still use it at home because it's faster, but I can manage without.)
im concerned about my son first, he is terrified of power outages..
WandererTony · 56-60, M
The lights! My mobiles get their own data networks when Wi-Fi goes down. But folks at home bump into furniture every time it’s dark 😂
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
The three freezers i have stocked with supplies for winter.
I can counter heat and light troubles
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
What's in the fridge I can eat without cooking since both the stove and microwave are inoperable.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Neither -- the heater for the fish tank. Got flashlights and candles, a wood burning stove, etc.
YMITheWayIM · 46-50, M
Uninterrupted power supply is what I have installed.
So no worries mate.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
I've got lanterns and MREs. And plenty of paper books. The gas fire place works very well.
within seconds the generator starts and life continues
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
Whatever it's the most excitement I've had all week.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
Fridge/freezer
DDonde · 31-35, M
The Wi-Fi. I can see in the dark.
