Do you trust Temu? It's too good to be true

4meAndyouF
Temu is a subsidiary of a huge company in China, PDD Holdings, (Pinduoduo). They have a bad reputation.

They are somewhat famous for selling very shoddy or non existent items. They are quite likely to perform data collection on your account, just as TikTok does. They place fake reviews under their items for sale to falsely make users believe that the item is good. Their refund guarantees are also false.

The only safe way to pay for an item from Temu is through a third party, such as Paypal. Beware of scams from Temu which attempt to sell you a "crate" filled with "free" items, but they refuse to allow you to buy same unless you give them your credit card number.

Once they have your email address, it is almost impossible to get them to stop emailing you regarding the "crate" scam. You can mark it as spam a hundred times, and it will keep coming back.

I ordered two items from them. I heard of them when my cleaning lady mentioned that she bought her sneakers from them for only $10.

BOTH times, there was a bait and switch. A very low price was advertised, but when I tried to order in a different color, the price went up...quite a bit. I tried to order one of those "sweater shavers", and again, there was a bait and switch. I ended up ordering one that seemed nicer...till I received it...and it only takes very hard to find batteries.

they're a legit company but are being investigated for forced/child labour.
@wildbill83 it's probably more serious due to their advertizing of shopping like a billionare.
wildbill8336-40, M
@Kitsunex child labor is child labor, what makes one case more serious than the other? 馃し馃徎

essentially any company that relies on foreign imports and/or suppliers is guilty of it; even big brands like microsoft, apple, amazon, etc.

I think it depends on what you buy from there. Somethings are too good to be true. My friend bought a rug from there and It looked like nice quality, just like the picture. I stick with Amazon and stores so I can return with no issues.
Pretzel61-69, M
I checked out a review website and it seems like a lot of people don't get what they ordered.

It's the choice of youtube influencers peddling their sponsorships so they can make money off their heard-earned views with their meaningless testimonials (and "life hacks"). They have a shoddy record of quality, delivery, and returns. Too good to be true, indeed.
My bank card blocks them.

they indeed seem too good to be true but be that as it may...enjoy them while u can...lol
Matt8536-40, M
@PleasurePunch Yeah I have the feeling they wont be around for long.
No, damaged or missing products. Low quality. Size comparison is misleading. Use gift cards to pay with cash.

I heard a commercial on the radio and it's pronounced tehmoo
SomeMichGuyM
No. Reviews indicate low quality/different items, etc.
I know people who love it. Never order myself.
Patriot9656-60, C
Poor quality. Unresponsive customer service
DearAmbellina211341-45, F
I do not. I have never and will never order from them.
It鈥檚 OK .Delivery is very slow.
darkmere198346-50, M
nope, it's cheap junk.
Howudoin41-45, M
Totally don't trust Temu, the reviews I've been seeing on the products are pretty universal about the low quality of the products. I see the boomer generation is all in, but they are used to buying crap.
zonavar6851-55, M
Do you trust Amazon? Temu is no different. Human rights abuse, slave labour, junk product, exploitation of workers...
Inflatedclothes41-45
@zonavar68 temu is this generations wish
zonavar6851-55, M
@Inflatedclothes Trust Temu? You shouldn't...

"PDD Holdings
History. Temu is owned and operated by PDD Holdings, which also owns Pinduoduo, a popular online commerce platform in China. PDD Holdings was registered in the Cayman Islands and moved its place of incorporation from Shanghai to Dublin in 2023."

It's doing the same sort of shit that Ebay is doing continually changing it's top level structure with operating companies in different countries (not the USA).

Ebay like a lot of other large e-commerce businesses has heavy investment from Vanguard and Blackrock.
CameliaF
No, mostly because I could never support that based on what I've heard about them utilising child labour.
wildbill8336-40, M
@Camelia you like Microsoft & Apple? 馃
wildbill8336-40, M
I've gotten a few things from there; no worse than all the other chinese shit you get from everywhere else... 馃し馃徎
eMortalM
I dont wish them success because that would be the end of US based eCommerce sites.
Jenny123451-55, F
It鈥檚 probably dollar store quality
PleasurePunch100+
@Jenny1234 some items are great. I am a great product-critic saying that. They aren't perfect but they act as if they care. You can really feel it.
Jenny123451-55, F
@PleasurePunch what did you buy from there?
Sidewinder36-40, M
Who... Or what... Is this "Temu" that you speak of?
SW-User
I must not. It must be
