My neighbors were an elderly couple, and they were very active in the yard. The wife had gotten sick, and she wasn't out anymore. The husband started showing signs of dementia their son lived out of state. One day, I picked up the kids from school, and we saw all these police cars. Come to find out, the husband had killed himself and his wife it was a murder suicide. It was a fairly large brick home on about 3 acres, and from then on, the kids called it the haunted house whenever we passed by. It stayed empty for years, and finally, a family moved in and stayed about a year or two, but now there's a new family that's been in it for about 5 years. I often wonder if they knew what happened there.
@PEACH4LIFE Sadly this is far too common with the Elderly where both get terminally ill at roughly the same time, and the healthcare system fails them both one way or another.

@NativePortlander1970 That's so true.😥

For crazy,I'd have to go back many years to when I was aged 8.A local doctor and his receptionist were killed when a home-made bomb placed under the doctor's car exploded when the engine was started - the device had been placed there by the receptionist's husband who took his own life on the same evening..A very unusual and tragic event for suburban Sydney Australia back in the mid-1950s - it even made news in some U.S. news outlets at the time.

Lesly Whittle, a victim of the Black Panther, was found dead in a drain less, than 5 miles from where I lived in 1975.

Two women were murdered less than a mile away from where I lived, in a burglary that got a bit out of hand in 1979.

Both were big national news stories at the time.
craig7 · 70-79, M
@Lugwho The Lesley Whittle case, and the so-called "Black Panther",made news here in Australia, back then.

Whenever a ship from the Phillipines came into dock, the neighbourhood dogs went missing.

A high speed chase crashed in front of the hospital. The driver went through the window and survived due to the bags of drugs he had strapped to his body. 3 of his passengers died. They were 12, 13 and 16 years old, just hitching a ride and had no idea about the drugs.

I live in the land of serial killers. Ted Bundy, Robert Lee Yates, Gary Ridgeway, Kenneth Bianchi to Name a few. As for a close by crazy crime way back years ago when I lived in Tacoma My neighbor apparently abducted a prostitute shortly after his Divorce and had her tied up in his basement for a few days. The other neighbor on his other side called the police because he heard screaming and yelling.

my father lived in an apt after his divorce to my mom One weekend when i was staying with my dad the next door neigbhors got into a fight and one of them pulled a knife on his rommate and stabbed him. the person survived. I slept right through it -but blood everywhere in the morning. the stabbed guy ran away leaving a blood trail across the parking lot.

in the last 15 years a police offiers son and grandson were running a B&E project in the neighborhood. They broke into our front door but didn't get all the way in--damaging the front door. they stole a number of items from my neighbors and even pulled copper wire out of the wall in some of the houses. the LEO used his power and influence to deter prosectuion until one of the banks that owned a house that was under possession and damaged pressured the DA causing his son and grandson to be convicted as felons the son is still up to no good but not near us anymore

There was a shooting in a tram, 6 years ago. Several years before that, I used to be in that tram every day

A couple of years ago, one of my former neighbors was killed in her house. Most likely by a family member.
solitaire · 41-45, F
@Tamara68 they did not catch the killer?
Tamara68 · 56-60, F
@solitaire the shooter in the tram was caught and sentenced for life.

The killer of my neighbor was not caught. But one of her sons killed himself 2 years later. I heard he was a suspect.

There was a murder several years ago at a townhouse. The murderer shot two people, including a maintenance man that died. He had bought a machete at a Walmart store and chopped up the landscaping trees around the store before he did.

An elderly man and his wife came home from grocery shopping one afternoon. The wife was bringing groceries to the pantry and surprised a man hiding there inside. He had a gun and shot her in the arm (she survived). There was a helicopter overhead in the area and a manhunt that lasted a couple hours. Three schools in the area were on lockdown.

More recently this past month a young man was arrested for breaking in to a dozen homes and mostly staring at the women who were sleeping. He admitted to raping one of them. This was at the same apartments that the man who murdered the maintenance man lived at.

I don't keep up with local stuff.

But I do know of a historical crime. In the days of the Pilgrims, (in the same century), supposedly one old woman was accused of being a witch, and she was kicked by some local boys. No one would let her in to their house, so one night, she froze to death on a public street.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
I guess we dont have enough crimes in the neighborhood to be able to rank them on craziness.

The only crime in the last few years was 2 weeks back. A burgler scaled the barbed wire capped boundary wall, climbed 2 floors using the drain pipe, entered an apartment from the balcony, disabled the cameras, locked the bedrooms from the outside and left with just one mobile phone that was lying on the drawing room couch. 😀

He also attempted 2 more apartments, failing to open the balcony latch in one, waking up the resident in another and falling on the water tank with a loud noise while fleeing. Woke up many, but escaped. An old mobile phone for 1 hour of high risk, high calorie criminal exercise. 🙄😀

Nothing, my closest neighbor is just over a mile away. I don't have to worry about crime when you live in the middle of no where. That's why it's best to live where cellphones don't work
Locally: A man attacked a 15yr old with a machete while he was on his way home from school. A year later, down the same road, different man, attacked a woman with a knife while she walked her kid home from school.

Not too far off: Any Kray/Sweeney Todd esq stuff.

I live close enough to DC that I can say: all of it
reubles · 41-45, M
Murder across the street, about a year before I moved in. Close second, some old woman fell asleep while behind the wheel and struck a moving van head on, again right in front of the house, she died

Shootings. And they happen indiscriminately. Last one was three months ago across the street.

A guy robbed a bank, the dye pack blew up, he all red, goes to motel got a room with red money, got arrested 30 minutes later got 24 years
John Dillinger and Baby Face Nelson robbed a local bank in 1934.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@NativePortlander1970 I lived in Gallatin Missouri in the 1960’s and the bank was robbed by Jesse James in the 1800’s. Also had lived in a small village in the next county and Jesse James & gang rode through there after the robbery. Had wondered if he used the blacksmith shop that was still there in the 1960’s.
@cherokeepatti I still remember that episode of the Brady Bunch when Bobby, the youngest boy, developed that weird obsession with Jesse James, until the old timer told him a story about Jesse that gave him that nightmare near the end of the episode.

@WandererTony Do you go crazy on a full moon?
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@solitaire I am not the best judge of that. 😊
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@metaldog Tides are due to gravity, which is explained by science. However i am not so sure for scientific basis for the rest.

@TOTGA I have read of two similar incidents in Morocco about 15 years ago. Young women buried rain shallow graves.
