Do you support Texas in defying a ruling of the United States Supreme Court?

CountScrofula · 41-45, M
I would if what they were doing was cool.

Instead this is about trapping people in razor wire so uh, no. I don't support them.

Weird how states rights and secessionist language seems to only surround treatment of minorities.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@SumKindaMunster
I'd rather focus my efforts on ending the war machine and using that money for Americans.
It would not matter. All that extra money would just end up in the hands of the rich real quick anyways.

If the federal government won't enforce their own laws the states have a right & obligation to protect themselves

Based on that they aren't defying anything but doing their duty
pdockal · 56-60, M
@akindheart

For now
I'm skeptical it'll stay up
Plus there are other states to consider
akindheart · 61-69, F
@pdockal yep...but Abbott is not taking this laying down. i admire that man tremendously...now lets talk about the mess in Florida. they have taken over my state. no one speaks English. they are turning this state into a third world country.
pdockal · 56-60, M
@akindheart

Not just your area
States can only do so much
The fed has more influence and power especially since the states are divided
jackson55 · M
The constitution says the states have the right to protect themselves if the feds don’t or won’t.

@SevIsPamprinYouAlways No money for the wall. It will never get past the house.
SevIsPamprinYouAlways · 56-60, F
@jackson55 “No funding for a massive boondoggle that is constantly breached and diverts billions of dollars away from funding modernization of land ports of entry; investments in modern border security technology and assets; and efforts to ensure the safe and humane treatment of migrants in Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) custody” is the more appropriate response.
Since the SCOTUS didn't provide much of an explanation to their decision, and the federal gov't continues to ignore immigration laws, it's up to the state of Texas to protect its citizens. So yeah, I support Texas.

Check out what the Texas National Guard did.

I've long been in favor of building the wall on the northern, rather than the southern, border of Texas.
I mean he’s not, though. All that the Supreme Court justices did on Monday was to vacate a lower-court injunction, which had itself prohibited federal officials from cutting or otherwise removing razor wire that Texas officials have placed along or near the US-Mexico border.

Nothing in Monday’s unexplained order stops Abbott from doing anything; it just means the federal government can’t be sanctioned by courts if it takes steps to remove those obstacles.

Abbott IS deliberately impeding the ability of federal officials to act in and around Eagle Pass – in a way that isn’t in outright defiance of the Supreme Court (yet), but that is inconsistent with the supremacy of federal law.

But to be fair, he was doing that well before the Supreme Court decision… so honestly nothing has changed there.

Fvcking YES!!!!
akindheart · 61-69, F
absolutely. and i guess many states agree with Texas. someone has something on John Roberts...that is all i can say.

The crocodiles comment was a joke. But people can't recognize jokes when they take themselves SO seriously that humor flies right over their heads.

I know WHY the Supreme Court ruled as it did...because in a perfect world, the federal government IS in charge of the border and all border decisions.

However, we have Bozo the Clown Biden running OUR border. The Court is forced to rule with history and long term consequences in mind, but Texas is completely correct in what they are doing.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
Seems most preferred razor wire over a wall.
RageAgainstTheMachine · 36-40, M
@Virgo79 Crocodiles. That is one of the proposed solutions. Clown world.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@RageAgainstTheMachine I'd just go for the wall

@ManKing 💯
Glad some people actually read
redredred · M
Read the ruling, it’s very narrow. Every border state has the right to protect its border from foreigners. What the state can’t do is remove or screw with federal protection of the border.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@redredred There is Federal protection at the border? Not in the last three years

@MasterLee here's one right back
Of course not.
Immigration is everyone's right. Only the lawless would argue otherwise.

@Roundandroundwego we have a serious mental health crisis. How are you still free to roam the streets unsupervised
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Roundandroundwego Cool, so we can send them to your property then? Whats your address?
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@SumKindaMunster This is what I don't get:when you have Presidents who do little or nothing to enforce the laws against illegal immigration -which,as I understand,is most of them,although Biden is undoubtedly the worst ever-the courts unfailingly claim that the Federal government has supremacy over immigration enforcement.Well,ok,but have you noticed that when you get a rare President like Trump who wants to ENFORCE those laws,those same people scream "states rights!"If the Feds have the absolute say on the subject,then how can sanctuary cities even exist?I remember that Trump started a program where I.C.E was going to collect criminal illegal aliens being held in major cities.Mind you,these were illegals convicted of felonies like rape ,assault and murder.Florida cooperated,but the mayors of such progressive cities like Chicago and Los Angeles had press conferences stated that they were not going to comply with the mandate.So what happened to Federal authority over immigration law then?I also remember that the major of Oakland actually tipped off a migrant community to an upcoming I.C.E raid.So,did the major get arrested for interference in government affairs?No!It seems that for illegal immigration advocates,there belief in who has authority fluctuates according to the beliefs of whoever's in control!
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Is it about being ugly? So many Texans have no choice!
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
No -- LOCK THEM UP!!
If it’s Texas, chances are I don’t, but I’m unfamiliar with your reference here.
Renaci · 36-40
Fuck Texas.
@Renaci They wish. That’s why Cruz is so evil.
