Anyone else not looking forward to your regular Christmas get together with family this year?

I'm not, but I'll fake it for the kids.

I am apprehensive. My wife is in care with dementia, but my daughter (who is bravely hosting the whole thing) has told the home she will be picking her up and dropping her back later in the day. I am in a moon boot and on a walking frame post operatively for almost a month. So I will need to be picked up, dropped off and managed as well. And my son and daughter arent playing "speaks" right now, due to creative difference. Nothing to see here folks ..😷

@morrgin You do you. I could be worried about nothing. It might all go swimmingly. I hope so. My daughter has had one hell of a year.. But I hope you have a better one than you fear. Remember. 90% of the things we worry about will never happen..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman There is no such thing as a 'perfect' family hey. Anyone who pretends there is, or tries to present such, is fibonacci-ing. Christian 'influencers' on Youtube/tik-tok/instagram (esp the mormon ones) try to make our their families are 'textbook' - ewww

@zonavar68 I know that and in the scheme of things I have been very fortunate. But all family gatherings are potential minefields. "This too shall pass"..😷

I have a lovely family, but they all live a good distance away from me in various parts of the country and they in turn have their own immediate families around them. Whereas I could travel, they understand that I would prefer to spend most of the day on my own, but will be visiting some very close friends nearby for a few hours for a late meal and an evening. No stress. I can come away when I want and they won't fret. I miss the days of the big family get together, but I'm not up for that anymore.
Not me. I am steadily growing older and my daughter was diagnosed with MS this year. My parents and all siblings are gone.

I don’t want to miss a thing.

These days I never look forward to it. I have lingering memories of really big extended family get-togethers when I was single-digit age before my parents got divorced in 1980, but most of my extended family is die-hard born-again fundy Christian types so now in 2025 I have no contact with any relo's or want to have contact with them. They don't try to find and contact me either, probably because the see me as a 'non-believer' in the Cult of Christ.

My three adult kids live several hours drive away, and this year I don't have my 8 y/o daughter for Christmas eve or day.

So far I'll be on my own on Thursday (25th).

I'm okay now, but my husband died 6 months ago so, as you can imagine I wasn't too thrilled about Christmas this year

I faked it for my 2 youngest sisters (14 and 16 years younger than me) when they were kids. Now I only fake it if my nieces invite me over for xmas. Otherwise I stay at home with Pantera (the cat, not the band) while pretending it's just another day in my house.

Also, this years holiday will be awkward if I have to be in the same room as my mom. We had our first fight ever a few days ago. (I made a post about it)
I enjoy the quality time for the grandkids - having a great time

It’s getting a little tiresome. I just really want to see the main people this year but some of them can’t even come.

Oh well. The show must go on!
Wallflow3r · 31-35, F
I don't mind. I only see my Family maybe 3 times a year and its all I can take lol
I'd love a Christmas with others around...

It’ll be a somber Christmas for me and my family, so……

@Kiesel 🫂

I'll happily spend it with my two cats.
morrgin · F
@dareme I have a new addition to our home this year, so it's his first Christmas. There aren't many ornaments this year on the lower half of the tree, but I keep replacing them because he likes them.
KiwiDan · 31-35, M
If I had the chance to spend it alone I would
