Is this stupid or not?
Some local governments in the US have barred "essential" stores, such as grocery chains or big-box retailers, from selling "nonessential" items such as clothing and toys.

There is in some areas actually a very good reason for this, and cities that have yet to do it are facing the problems as to why others have. I do feel clothing is an "essential" item. But Children have done very well with out the excess of toys they have no days for years and years. Often the less "toys" a child has the more stimulated their brain becomes and better appreciation and understanding of value things have moving towards adulthood.

@Kazuya69 Actually, I don’t see a problem if you and your wife and your 6 children go shopping together. Just don’t mingle with the other families that’s also shopping.

@SimplyTracie so during a pandemic, you don't see a problem with increasing the chances of getting one of your family members killed ? Children have a tendency to touch a lot of things, put stuff in their mouths, and run off or around. If your alone or single and have no choice, fine you do what you have to, but the whole point is stopping UNNECESSARY risk. Or what if Members of your family are asymptomatic carriers and just for your convenience your fine with increasing the risk to others?
What people don't seem to understand is, non of this is about them, its about all the people they dont give a shit about. Its like a drunk driver saying if he wants to drive drunk its his choice, however its not his stupidity killing himself that's the problem. It is the innocent faimly that dies when he runs head into them.

@SimplyTracie definitely seems like some logical things to include have been excluded. All I can think of is that they have been deemed as not essential. Without any real consideration. This has all been cobbled together very hastily, primarily by politicians. so lots of sensible things have been overlooked. What a surprise, Not!

Yes, that's stupid. Although in the UK most of the stores seem to be cutting their clothing line deliveries anyway as nobody is buying them right now. However, people should have the option to buy clothes and toys for their kids because kids grow out of those things pretty fast.

Yes it's fair. While department stores that don't sell groceries are required to close, stores like Target, Walmart, Costco, etc. have an unfair advantage when they sell non-essential items in addition to food. Like what the heck? It's like the government is funneling business to some businesses while putting a chokehold on others.

It's not stupid. It limits the distance and time a shopper can spend in that closed environment, minimizing exposure to others and from others. Additionally, it minimizes the surface area touched by a potentially infectious shopper.

@SW-User Exactly. I'm not sure when this nation turned into such a collective group of children. We're asking you to take a staycation. Try weathering a category 4 + hurricane and spending the next 35 days with no air conditioning or power. Then imagine that instead of picking up hair dye at Walmart your concern was having a full bucket of water to flush a toilet. Sleep in a 95 degree weather with full humidity and rain.

Well... People are only supposed to be out for essential trips like food shopping. If the stores sell anything, then people will "pretend" to go food shopping just to get out of the house but buy something stupid instead. Right? 🤷🏻♀️ Idk

They did the same here. Alcohol and cigarettes are banned, so are hot foods and clothing. I can't buy a razor either.

That might be frustrating for some but its the right thing to do if someone coughs or sneezes near the clothes then there is the possibility the CV is on them
People can have the virus and not know it if they picked an item up to look at it and then put it back then its possible the virus could be on that item
