I had one, he was a general practisioner who died of very old age. I used to get walking pneumonia and couldn't afford a doctor so he would treat me with antibiotics that I couldn't get back then from any fish store or online. My payments was in the form of him presenting a historical query, and I would get him a primary text translation on that subject, the best in the field. Stuff nobody else in my area would know about. Last thing I got him was a record of a reenactment of the Lincoln Douglas Debates, because he said he really wished he could go back in time and hear them debate. He then had a stroke, lost the ability to communicate. I got him the record but the home he practiced out of (he was on the board of the home) didn't have record players, so I had to go to a radio station to have it converted over to cassett.
Last bit of entertainment he had. Family had no idea who I was when I showed up at the funeral viewing, said I was his final patient and they didn't believe me due to my age. Then I mentioned the record and they were blown away it was me.

Ours seems to be pretty good, only been going to her for a year or so. We left the practice we'd gone to for 15-20 years because of the distance of the drive. Not really THAT far, but my wife doesn't drive anymore, so we decided to find a doctor right close by. So now all of our doctors AND the hospital are within a 5 to 10 minute drive.
But doctors are very different now from what they were when I was young. Now they are all specialists in one way or another; back when I was growing up the "family doctor" tends to do everything from treating a sore throat to stitching up minor injuries.

my doctor is great, the old fashioned friendly welcoming type, he puts you at ease which is what you want, i'm lucky, because i know they're a rare breed now.
I'm currently struggling with some health issues and I swear none of the doctors listen to me. I feel like their guinea pig.

You're are just a pay check. If you were paying cash or credit without health insurance. You would get 1000% better care.
I seen that first hand. Insurance companies pay to keep you sick to make money off with a partnership with pharmaceutical companies

We don't have the privilege of seeing the same doctor anymore, but all the ones that I've seen have been decent.

My GP is pretty good. It’s just a bit of a challenge getting an appointment.

There's 2 (female) doctors in the GP practice I'm registered with - they are both good.

I just switched doctors .
I'm hoping this one is better.
She's younger and probably more aware of the new ways in medicine.
My old doctor was stuck in his ways and kept trying to prescribe me medicine, that I kept telling him I couldn't take, because it made me ill.
I was impressed that she took the whole hour I was allotted and explained things to me so, here's hoping she's going to be better.

Not since the 1990s, I haven't seen or been to a regular doctor since.

I guess I’m the oddball here. I moved a few years back. And have had the best doctor in my life since. She is knowledgeable, caring, and understanding. I feel lucky to have found her. I thought my last was good but this one is a treasure. I’m strictly speaking my primary care doctor. All my specialists don’t fall into the same category.

No! Been searching for one and been procrastinating making my annual wellness check….. my doctor retired and he was phenomenal!

Its shame that medical care is horrible in America and I'm sure other parts of the world as well. You go to one doctor and that's all then you end up going to another and it seems like we never get the best of care all we can do is wish the best.
BrewCityBarfly · M
Not really. I'm on my second doc after mine retired. He was an old fashioned poke and prod doc, but I always thought his thoroughness kept me healthy. The two most recent seem adverse to doing anything beyond the routine checkup stuff.

It’s hard to get anything good anymore. Including mechanics, carpenters, electricians. Luckily, I do pretty much everything myself.

Mine spends about 5 minutes with me then on the the next patient. Yet the optometrist I just went to was very kind which I liked. Dentist is that way too.

I've had a very good one for almost 20 years. Through him I've gotten excellent care from my urologist and oncologist

SaorUladh · 26-30, M
I used to have a very good doctor but he retired. The man who replaced him isn't as good.
I have one. He´s a very decent man, and a competent one. Not a very common mix among doctors.

I like mine. She’s helped me deal with my diabetes, anytime classes or info comes up she reaches out and lets me know. I’ve never had a doctor that proactive.
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
Depends on your luck. I only got one good one in my life who removed my gall bladder.
