SW members ages 30-50: How often do you go to the doctors?

Do you go just when ill?

A yearly physical?

Any specialty, like eye appt/ dermatology etc?
reubles · 41-45, M
Depends really. Last year it was a few times a week for months, then a couple of times a month for a few months, this year I've been to see different doctors maybe 6 times so far
reubles · 41-45, M
@Coralmist I had my kidney transplant last year in January, I was required to remain in Quebec City for monitoring, and blood work every few days. Then when I got to go home the appointments were spaced out to every couple of weeks. Then it's was about once a month, now I'm at every 3-4 months
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@reubles oh yes ... I'm so glad the transplant went so Well!! How are you doing now?
reubles · 41-45, M
@Coralmist I'm great, feel 36 again lol

I have found that doctor visits increase dramatically as you get a little older and more active/athletic. Pulled hip flexors, a dislocated ankle, a tibial fracture, sprains, fish hook removal, and lacerations requiring a few stitches. My next-door neighbor is my Doctor and Chief of Trauma at our local hospital. I noticed unusual spotting a few years ago, told Doc, and 2 days later, my uterus was removed and my lymph nodes were biopsied. Follow-up pet scans, and the fact she is a close friend keeps me under nearly constant doctor's care.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
Well, I'm 29, not 30 (yet!) ... I see my primary doctor once a year. She is also my gyno so it's like a two-in-one visit. I see the eye doctor as needed which has been once every several years. Other than that, I rarely see doctors and that is by choice.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
go every18 months or so uless something is wrong I have a. Cardiologist for high blood pressure as well.
I'm due for another cancer screening because unfortunately it has ravaged my family, both parents and 3 of 4 grandparents have died of it.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
Just when WebMD tells me to get in the coffin. 😒

I did go recently for heart palpations which was stressed induced.
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@Coralmist it was a scary experience
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@LilPrincess Sometimes Ive had them so strong I though I would die. Apparently they are not harmful when caused by anxiety ...but they sure feel it😩
LilPrincess · 41-45, F
@Coralmist that is how these were. I have had some personal stress lately and apparently that is what triggered mine. My mama had them a lot and she suffered from anxiety as well
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Only when ill or taking family to appointments. My wife is a nurse and helps with our daily maintenance. When I reach 40 there will be regular birthday appointments with the GP, which is something to look forward to . .
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I'm far older now. Yet I never saw a doctor for anything between those ages. Not even for cracked ribs.

Wrapped a bandage roll around them.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@DeWayfarer So you didn't go for a physical all those years? like to check blood pressure/blood work?
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Coralmist I didn't even have a physical until my work required it in 2010. I was already over 50. Yet that was a better paying job.

You have to have one to drive a front end loader for that company. For insurance purposes. Not really because of health. They could have cared less if not for insurance. In fact they didn't because I already was working for them for years.

In Texas they didn't even require it. I was operating a eight man scissor lift for construction. That job qualified me for the front end loader job.
I hadn't seen a doctor in about 10 years but when a dentist checked my blood pressure and it was 200/120 I decided it was time to maybe start going again xD
Pretty constantly. But I'm hoping to change that in the next few years.
Mmiker · 46-50, M
I go only when needed. Not sure that’s the right thing to do
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
More often than I wish.

Dentist - once a year unless I have a problem
Endocrinologist - once a year
Gyno - once a year but just because they wouldn't prescribe pills otherwise
GP - when I'm really sick and think I need antibiotics or when I have some other specific problem and need a referral to a specialist
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Only after a trip to the ER do I go to the doctors.
I remember having to have a medical check done for my HGV licence when i hit 40, when i called the practice, they asked for the name of my GP, when i gave the name the receptionist let out a little laugh, and told me he had retired 15 years ago and my next GP had also retired 🤷‍♂️🤣🤣
Allelse · 36-40, M
When I run out of scripts, last time my blood pressure was 116/80 which was great. Normally my blood pressure is high. My doctor was like it should benhigh because you're overweight, but the exercise is helping.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Allelse That is a great BP!! I get So nervous about bp checks ughh. Typically it is fine BUT at first, it is always sky high :( Because I get so nervous, it MAKES it go high! Then even on rechecks it is high. Then they make a big deal over it, even though I know it is not 'truly' high, and then my anxiety goes even higher. I really hate it ughhh. EVen taking my own BP at home it does this.. as soon as the damn cuff gets tighter my heart races. I'm trying to view it as just a thing in our body to keep an eye on, not some worrisome thing.
License renewal since I need a medical, taking advantage of my current medical insurance so dentist once or twice a year. Started doing non Dr work on my body. Seeing a regular DR? When I absolutely have to, ER maybe
MysteriousRose · 26-30, F
No way unless it's an emergency then I will go to the hospital, and if I need a follow up then I will do that but I pay attention to my body and don't sleep around (no offense to anyone)
Since Covid19 - never... I hated telephone triage and I could never get an appointment.

Now they're writing to me asking me if I want to remain a patient with them or not.
Mine are usually for a full physical, blood work, vaccines for my age group. Always have a general physician to keep you up to date
I go to er to have pain shots for my period cramps, other than that hopefully not.
Gringo · 46-50, M
Every 6 months. Once for a physical and the other because of high blood pressure.
Yearly with my pcp and every 4 months with a specialist right now
AceOfSpades · 36-40, M
I've only seen my doctor once, sonce I joined my new practice in 2019.
twice a year but my doctor comes to me everyday
Fluffybull · F
Rarely. I think I went once last year.
Alisha233 · 31-35, F
Hahahahaha you mean Google?
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I've started yearly checkups as of last year. I did go this year already, so two years in a row. I also do yearly eye exams
I go to three different doctors each year, with labs every three months.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I got a lot, I see 10 specialists and I wish I were exaggerating. Going to the doctor is like a job for me.
Lilnonames · F
Can't afford it most times
