Yes I use it but only with a select few

Yes, but many of us do not see the site as being primarily a "chat room." We spend most of our time with the public posts and comments, and sometimes private conversations spring up from those interactions.

A post like, "Hi! Anyone wanna chat?" will usually be met with derision.

I have sent messages to people and had no replies, but sometimes you find a chatter and its fun for a bit.
