Colonizing Mars

If they successfully figure out how to colonize Mars would you go? (Assuming you had the choice.)

There's plenty of space here and if they spent a fraction of the cost of mars spend on education and fixing this planet it would do more benefit
GoFish · 41-45, F
@bluepedal yeah my thoughts too
Nope but I have several people I’d love to see go.
Elessar · 31-35, M
@OlderSometimesWiser It's a complete waste giving them Mars when we can send those into the Sun
@Elessar I have someone I’d like to nominate as a volunteer.

My guess is that if a private colony were to be set up there it legally would declare itself independent and everything that has to have a license would declare itself registered on Mars as a flag of convenience as the taxes and laws would be minimal. Wages would not be subject to countries minimum wage and workplace laws. Even marriage laws and sex predator laws would be undercut. Religions would likely be taxed and prevented from setting up. The first thing to open would be a casino and a brothel where everything goes as anyone going there would be screened.
Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids.. in fact it’s cold as hell - Bowie
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout .. lol .. they are grown and killing it on their own. Now's the time..
4thdimensiondream · 70-79, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout isn’t that Rocketman by Elton? Come on get your make believe lyrical Astronauts right Man! lol.
What does Mars have that Earth doesn't?
Lsreading4200 · 31-35, F
@sstronaut not sure
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@sstronaut it would be a tax haven.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Hmm, let's see. The soil is toxic to organic life. There's no magnetic field, so deadly levels of radiation shower the planet at all times. The gravity is low enough to be awkward. The atmosphere is barely a trace.

Sounds good! When do we blast off?
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@Penny Living 2 meters underground in tunnels and bunkers, breathing recycled air and drinking recycled urine.

Honestly, I've lived in worse places.
Penny · 46-50, F
@DunningKruger it would be a flex though wouldnt it? to say you lived on mars for awhile lol. (if you made it back)
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@Penny Depends on how long you live there. After enough time, coming back won't be a viable option.
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
No! Mars is a very hostile environment for Earth life; can't breathe the air, can't grow food, only 1% of Earth atmosphere, no magnetic field to protect against radiation, very cold temps. Takes six months to get there.
Penny · 46-50, F
@badminton yeah but theyre trying ot make it a hospitable place to live. i mean, if they did. i suppose your answer would still be no lol. just asking.
No. I refuse to contribute to the costly and idiotic dream of manned space travel.
exexec · 70-79, C
Absolutely not! The several months long journey to Mars, plus the stay on a hostile planet would kill me. I wouldn't have to worry about the journey home.

Only if I knew David Bowie was there, and he'd be doing concerts every Saturday.
Elessar · 31-35, M
I've already seen that movie and it doesn't end well 😬

Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids..
Neuman · M

Lsreading4200 · 31-35, F
I don't think I would.
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
Penny · 46-50, F
@BrandNewMan cool. 🚀
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
@Penny

pikminboy · 31-35, M
living in mars is stupid and pointless , there's nothing there, moreover its very cold i think -70 degrees Celsius
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
No, because Elon Musk will have got there first and turned it into a colony for white supremacists 😞
Penny · 46-50, F
@SunshineGirl why do you think hes a white supremacist?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Penny Because of his "edgy and provocative" public statements on race, genetics, immigration, and culture.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@SunshineGirl such utter BS
Rokan · 36-40, M
I have absolutely no reason to do that
