@SW-User deserved 👏

helenS · 36-40, F
LEGO bricks, blocks, pieces when I was a very young child. Later, a metal construction set. Still later, electronic components such as transistors. I made my own AM radio when I was 14 or so.
@helenS Thanks for the affirmation. You're a rare bird with so much insight. (((BOWS to you)))

@Grateful4you 🌷 <== flower for you
@helenS Wonderful. I can place that along with my white orchids. I was a "Flower Child" The best time of my life. Thank you hon.

Fashion Plates😌
ShadowSister · 46-50, F
@StarLily You just brought so much joy into my life by reminding me of those. That was such an amazing toy! I'm pretty sure I still have mine. ❤️
StarLily · 51-55, F
@ShadowSister Haha. Fashion Plates were the best! Happy to bring back the memory. I still have mine as well. My daughter loved playing with them too. Perhaps they'll see a third generation in the future.

Construction kits: Meccano and an architectural equivalent called Bayko.

I also spent a lot of time trying to make things from tin-plate (cut from food tins), assembled by soldering. I don't think I ever managed to make anything effective until in my teens, and then it was simple radios.

My attempts to learn to repair broken clocks succeeded in making them.... even more broken. I am lucky I was never hit in the face by a suddenly-released mainspring or some part it catapulted from the half-dismantled clock at great speed. ( I had only a scrappy knowledge of how clocks work, and no proper clock-repairing tools including those used for unwinding and rewinding their powerful springs safely.)

Lincoln Logs were the real deal.

Yes,Mom probably did throw them out one fine spring day.

I had a capgun musket I was very fond of,complete with tricorner hat and a powder horn.
Then a bow and arrow ushered in the Robin Hood era...

Quite often a big cardboard box was a great toy.Fort,tank,spaceship-whatever the occasion called for. Thanks for bringing up this topic,I'm getting all reminiscent and fuzzy.
@dubkebab Thank YOU for the appreciation. I forgot about the large cardboard boxes. I wish I still had my Lincoln Logs. Wooden toys have become a rarity. Plastic has become a plague ruining our environment.
dubkebab · 51-55, M
@Grateful4you Right.What was that quote from 'the Graduate'? "Plastics are the future..."?
And the legacy for the next dozen generations-if we have 'em.
I can envision a bug-eyed,many tentacled visitor in the distant future touching down on the Arizona shoreline to behold one of those squeeze bottle honey bears and ponder what mighty species must have left such a mysterious and awe inspiring legacy...
@dubkebab I never considered that quote but yes, I remember the scene distinctly. "One word, plastic" I'm actually glad for my age, I probably won't be here to see the end. The earth is already actively ridding itself of the poisons of "humanity" it will survive without us quite nicely.

Contrary to biblical belief, Mankind does NOT have dominion over the earth or it's animals and all other species.

My Red Ryder BB gun.
SW-User
@exexec you'll shoot your eye out !
exexec · 61-69, C
@SW-User Fortunately, I knew how to use it safely, but I shot a lot of BBs, recovered them and shot them again.
@exexec I remember those. I had one and somehow managed NOT to shoot my eye out.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
The yoyo and the Rubik's cube.
@Sidewinder Ironically, I was just thinking about the old Rubik's cube. Are you good at it? I'm not.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@Grateful4you Somewhat good at it.
Highskirt · 56-60, M
Stretch arm strong .and my Raleigh grifter bike
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
Legos for sure.
@caPnAhab Nice but too much plastic.
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@Grateful4youyeah. many of my old ones are starting to show their age.
SW-User
My Holly Hobby doll
@SW-User Never heard of that one. The closest thing I had as a doll I had was a teddy bear named "Teddy Jimmy" I haven't a clue why I name him that. LOL
Hot wheels... That's about it
Up til kindergarten, wooden blocks.
Thereafter, Legos, legos, and more legos!

I did try several other building toys, but none could hold a candle to legos.
ShadowSister · 46-50, F
Barbie, Star Wars, She-Ra. I still have those toys with me in my office. I miss Rainbow Brite, I wish she was still available for to buy.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
This was by far my favorite toy. As long as I had batteries, a machine close to this one was a guarantee that I didn't care about anything else.
@uncalled4 There are thousands of people who still swear on the superior quality of vinyl records.

MethDozer · M
Legos. The Castle and space themeed ones to be specific . And my bicycle and bb gun
@MethDozer My bike was the best Christmas present EVER! A whole new world of adventure, a few years later, it was replaced by a little Honda motorcycle that took me and my best friend all over So.Ca. Good time for sure!
