You get sent back in time 150yrs, with your actual skill set right now. What's the most advanced thing you could build from scratch to impress people?

I understand about the chemical composition of essential oils. Modern aromatherapy didn't begin to gather knowledge until the 1920s but chemists were making lots of weird and wonderful potions in the late 1800's. Germ theory was just beginning to be discovered too. I think I could make a nice little business making medicinal ointments that would actually benefit people. The Victorians attempted to cure syphilis with arsenic and mercury so I think I'd be pretty successful 😂

Id try and make it rich by patenting stuff that is common in the construction industry now(2026),

l took carpentry and technical drawing in highschool and i helped build project housing for extra credits in my 1st and 2nd years of varsity, id be abit late for the invention of the lawn sprinkler(1871)

but id try and mprove on it on and other non-electric things, while working in the construction industry to make a living in 1876.

I could make a dress and/or other clothes.

Hmmm... late 1800s. Interesting. I think I'd do nicely. I understand mechanics, have use many a manual tool, understand and have done plumbing and basic electrical theory, and am a decent carpenter with a decent understanding of load and stress issues.

Overall I think I'd do fine, but not without my espresso😁

It would be nothing electronic, not sure about electric. Nor made of synthetic plastics.

Most of my present knowledge would be useless because there would be no way to implement it.

So it would have to be improving already-known plant and machinery; perhaps developing the internal-combustion engine.

Might be possible to improve homes' heating (e.g. central-heating though I'm not sure the circulating-pump would be feasible) and insulation.

Time to invent electricity without resorting to lightning! 😊

150 years ago isnt that far away. If it were like 500 years then you could be god like with common modern knowledge.

I could design and supervise the construction of a house to 2026 code, meaning it would stand for a long time.

1876 was pretty modern. You would end up in the Civil War and tie of disease or end up being cannon fodder.

if I was permanently stuck in 1876, I wouldn't be trying to impress anyone, I'd be looking for something tall to jump off of ... you don't even have the most interesting art, architecture, sculpture or rmusic yet at that point, among other fck no aspects of that era
