The only good thing was that when we had those phones, phone numbers only had seven digits usually. Most of the time in our town, phone numbers were four or five digits. Mine was 7864 and my girlfriend's was 8-8193.

Now, my parents were immigrants from a small isolated Greek island.

As a child, I spent a lot of my summer months there. Boring, quiet, beautiful…all the things that I look for now…but, hated back then.

Anyhow, my grandfather had the only phone in the village….and anyone who wanted to make a call would come over.

His phone was so old…you had to crank it to work it, and speak into some kind of microphone while holding up an ear piece.

Granted, everything on the island was older technology…but, I was always fascinated by his phone. Meanwhile, back in the states I was privy to touch phones…and everyone had them.

I got to play with one of those at my grandma's house

It wasn't connected to a phone line

I had nightmares for years that the monsters were chasing me and I just couldn't dial the phone correctly, quite often on that last digit.

Or not realizing you had messed up and getting a wrong number/person .👻

Having numbers with zeros in it took forever to dial.

True but at least I did not have to charge it up every single day! ;)

Yup .. and getting up to change TV channels, rolling down a car window ..

Especially if there was a lot of 7s or higher in the number.

At least with these you could slam it down when hanging up.
