None of us are perfect. I have never met a person who hasn't let me down in some way or another. It is part of being human. Best friends are just that, friends. They aren't Gods.
Yep. We've been best friends since 10th grade. We've drifted apart a couple times due to distance. But yeah, I'd forgive her for breaking a promise. The thing is, we have never made any promises. I don't make promises to anyone.

If they are your best friend, yes. Nobody is perfect. But again betrayal is different than someone breaking a promise. Betrayal implies they knew what they were doing and they got something out of selling you out. At that point you have to protect yourself and stay away from that person. Someone could promise you something and then come up short or forget. It doesn't mean they sold you out.

It depends on what the promise was and why they broke it. If it were my best friend, there would be a lot of latitude before I’d abandon a 46 year friendship.

When I was younger, I'd have left and not looked back. Loyalty was everything.
I'm older now, no expectations of anyone or anything seems a more peaceful and simple way to be.

That depends on the promise. If it was something simple like "I promise I'll show up" but doesn't, I could get over that.
But if it were more like "I promise not to tell anyone" but does, that is a complete violation of trust and I'd not be able to forgive that.

The thing about me is I forgive pretty easily. So yeah, I might go back but I’d definitely keep my eyes open this time. Some lessons only need to be learned once.
BlueVeins · 22-25
Probably yeah unless it was something really bad. I think people are too eager to throw away friends these days because we feel like we have options.
Achelois · F
I don’t hold grudges, we all make mistakes.
HoeBag · 46-50, F
Once in a while things like that happen because it is unavoidable. If it becomes a pattern, I am not going to put up with it.

Sure. It certainly wouldn't be the end of the world. We all fail, we all blunder. We are human not saints.

In some instances if it were a mistake. If it was a conscious decision to betray me, then no.

Depends on how big & important the promise was, and what their reasons were for breaking it.
