Do you ever look up old friends/lovers?

During the past 6 months, I've looked up 3 guys that I used to date, and haven't spoken to in many years, only to find their obituaries. It's not that I wanted to reconnect -- I was just curious about where they may be in this stage of life.

Now I know.
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
I actually had to do that as part of the committee for our 50 year HS reunion last year.
Found several obituaries and also found that some former classmates had relatives pass away and were mentioned as surviving family.
I know of at least 2 women I dated who are now deceased.
When you get to a certain age, you realize that not everyone lives that long.
@DragonFruit You're right.

I have the same curiosity. Sometimes the digging leads me to their happy place in life, but sometimes it doesn’t. Revealing the latter hurt more than I thought it would, so a couple of years back I stopped the curiosity from taking hold ever again. Now the people from my past stay there and instead of my mind drifting to wonder what their lives entail now, I instead let it take me back to the good times I shared with them.

Yeah, i ve looked up many old friends and old boyfriends. Its only out of curiousity .... see how life treated them. I did reconnect with a number of school friends and we srarted a FB group. Its scary how many of our peers have passed on.
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
I don’t have a whole lot of history IRL…. Just my wife. But she does look up her exes from time to time in the same spirit as you have.

Also, sorry for your loss.
@Ambroseguy80 Thank you.

Yes, I did this just the other day with an old HS sweetheart of mine…she no longer had a FB account. I looked and found her obit. 😔
A few months ago there was another woman on FB that had taken a liking to me. We crossed paths on a private funny meme group. I no longer found her FB account either. Turns out she was killed in a car wreck.
@TravisTx Oh my. I'm so sorry.

I had a crush on a woman once. But she had a girlfriend at the time. Later, she had a boyfriend. In between I professed my love for her but she declined it.

Twenty years later I found her on Facebook. She was still cute. She had married a different man, and had kids. I did not contact her, though.

I don't, but I'm not on Facebook or anything like that. Lynn has done it. She tried to find her last college lover. She finally talked to another of her college lovers who said that the one she was looking for was living like a hermit and out of touch.
@exexec Wow. I'm not on Facebook either. I guess I might have known sooner if I was. 😕

I went to school far from home so my school friends weren't part of my home life.

Same with university.
Friendships were made and occasionally functions attended but we weren't in each others lives beyond that.

And all that pre- social media so the only way I would know about anyone these days is if I get hold of local newspapers from those places which I do from time to time.

On the rare occasion if I'm home i might run into somebody who has information on some, and occasionally there's a temptation to run a name through Facebook or similar just to see, but I never go beyond that.

Those days are long gone and probably best left in the past.

I did and not that long ago... seems I've outlasted many of my school pals/heartthrobs, which sort of surprises me.
i looked a few of them up not too long ago. the years have been kind to some, and others, not so much.
That’s one of the reasons I don’t look up old friends and lovers.
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
Sure do, I call them at least a few times a year
Same. Except just one passed 😞
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
I used to, I stopped after I turned 40.
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
No. When I'm done I'm done.
@AlchemyFox My thoughts exactly
Umile · 41-45, F
I understand.

I guess it's just us being curious about how our lives could've been.

Two married with Kids. One is in Jail I think.

So, I dodged a bullet and lost two. Lol.

I think things are meant to be.
@Umile Agreed.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
I do that sometimes. There is only one ex I can’t find on Facebook. I think based on the trajectory of her life she may be deceased and that is why I can’t seem to find her.
Multiple times a day for 3 years and still going strong.
@Animalvan Looking them up. He left to work in another city just after lockdown but he’s back now. I stopped looking him up for a couple of months but he’s single again now so I resumed the looking up phase. 😂
Animalvan · 56-60, M
@Gingerbreadspice good luck

not really. once i stop talking to people that's usually it. i may think about them from time to time but i never actively seek out information on them.
DHggmu · 31-35, M
Sometimes I get curious, but that’s it. I’d rather not know, really. It’s all in the past, I look forward not back.
@DHggmu I respect that.

Not exactly - but did find a website of my high school graduating class which listed out who passed away....that was kind of a bummer...
eyeno · M
Some have past-on, so it got me thinking what path in life did they take only to end so early.

I have but it’s more for curiosity. Unfortunately found out a former flame passed away as well.
Ferric67 · M
I have enough people currently in my life that consume that sort of attention
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I so, at times, wonder what happened to the people who used to be in my life.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Yes just out of curiosity. They are alive and well. Married, kids etc..
@JimboSaturn That's good news. ☺️
losthorizons · 51-55, M
That’s crazy. How old were they if you don’t mind me asking. Pm me
@losthorizons Coincidentally, they were all in their 40s when they passed.
mooncrest02 · 31-35, F
Yea I look up my hs bestie every once in a while, good to see her doing good.
No but my ex wife of 20 years looked me up for reasons I still don't know
robertsnj · 56-60, M
@DreamyCrush how old are you? I had an ex pass away. It was sad to see.
@robertsnj My condolences.
I'll be 57 next month.
Fluffybull · F
I did, and found he died during lockdown. 😥
@Fluffybull I'm sorry.
Musicman · 61-69, M
I have tried looking up old friends, but never had any luck.
Magenta · F
Aw that's so sad.
I have, yes, but not in a while.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
Yikes. That's pretty young to no longer be around.
darkmere1983 · 46-50, M
unfortunately i lost touch with many of them.
Animalvan · 56-60, M
Yes…I think everyone does
Plasticbag · 100+, M
Not for a long time
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I have a couple of times.
No. I do not. The past is the past. I am far too busy living my life to dig in the past. If someone wanted to find me, they could. Are you having regrets about things?
@PoetryNEmotion No regrets, just curiosity.

Years ago when there was friends reunited and Facebook in it's early days. But soon realised all we had in common was going to the same school
