I went to school far from home so my school friends weren't part of my home life.
Same with university.
Friendships were made and occasionally functions attended but we weren't in each others lives beyond that.
And all that pre- social media so the only way I would know about anyone these days is if I get hold of local newspapers from those places which I do from time to time.
On the rare occasion if I'm home i might run into somebody who has information on some, and occasionally there's a temptation to run a name through Facebook or similar just to see, but I never go beyond that.
Those days are long gone and probably best left in the past.
