Why is it that some people think they must compete?

I do not understand that one either. I love sharing stories and experiences, but when doing so and a person takes it as a competition I shut down and walk away. I have no want to waste my time competing in a conversation when I am trying to share.

On a more serious note, I suspect in many cases it has to do with insecurity, but there are probably multiple reasons.

So they don’t feel behind. 🤷‍♀️

Thirty six kids and one teacher.
Enough fruits and veggies for sixty percent of the population.
Enough housing for the richest seventy percent.
Broken country getting more dangerous, Americans changing nothing.

A need obviously... Whether it's fulfilling their own desires or someone else's... Trying to win the often unobtainable

Because throwing shade against comp one is way easier than throwing the prop shapes.

Race to the bottom is in the other lane.

Their entire self worth is based off being better than everyone else.

i don't know but i hate competing and hate to be competed with.

I don't know. I'm the least competitive person I know.
