How often do you eat a treat/sweet?

Years ago it was 3 to 4 days a week for me. For the past couple years, I've done just twice a week. That helped me lose twenty pounds, but also minimizing total calories in the day too. Occasionally I 'll cheat and have three treats a week. If I"m walking that day especially. ( a Treat meaning like, two cookies, or a brownie, or a dish of ice cream).
I remember this older man in a Dunkin donuts once, before COVID began. I was ordering a drink and he turned around, and said,"Aren't you going to get a donut? "I replied, "Not today." He said, "Oh, I get one everyday.' He was in relatively good shape too. How often do you have a sweet ?

I don't eat sugar at all nor very much wheat.
I think the bread I eat has some wheat, but it is lower in carbs.
I am focusing on my health and getting my AC1 down and blood sugars stable.
Everyone is different, and you have to be honest if you can eat a donut and stay on target most of the rest of the week.
Being diabetic and addicted to sugar, that is not possible for me.
If I eat a sugar-free dessert, I tend to eat it with my meal, so any carbohydrates will be counted in the total meal carb set by me, which is currently 25 grams or less.
It is rare and getting rarer for me to do so.
I may indulge once a month and a bit more during the holiday season.
It took many years of bad health to get to this point.

@Justmeraeagain Yes its tricky with diabetes..good for you. How long have you had it? The Jello brand puddings sugar free, are good..
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Baybreeze 13 years. I usually use SF pudding powder to flavor my Greek plain yogurt. I like to get extra protein when I can.

Good job on your part!
I did great for a while. Now I find myself binging (not good). I have to get back to having them rarely.
LOL - I'm in my 70s and I cannot function without sweets. Not lying (because what I'm about to say sounds incredible) but I bought 2 tubs of ice cream last week and both were gobbled up in 2 days.

@Baybreeze

Please stop... I'm beginning to palpitate.
@Baybreeze

...as if you care... 🤭

@rinkydinkydoink I can resume delicious ice cream talk another day :P
Miram · 31-35, F
I rarely consume anything with processed sugar.

I do though get sever cravings for salty peanuts and chocolate once every month before or during my period..which can make me binge so horribly if I give into it.
itsok · 31-35, F
every day, I think
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@itsok Wow you eat very healthy!! IIs it a health reason or you just enjoy eating healthy? I did have a protein waffle recently but didn't like it lol. I'm trying in general to lessen calories each day, to around 1600 a day. Then I can still have foods I like, but less portion.
itsok · 31-35, F
@Baybreeze the peanut butter cups are good!
I try to make slightly healthier choices for groceries, but I don’t think about that when I’m eating with friends and family or I’m having a craving for something else.
I’ve been sitting around 1200-1300 calories daily for when I’m just cooking and eating by myself, but I have to have my treats 😅
What brand waffles did you have? Eggo does a protein waffle that I think tastes pretty similar to their original. The only difference I noticed is it takes longer to toast. 90cal
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@itsok That's cool :) I used to do 1300 calories a day years ago, and I was at my ideal weight and thin. but, I just can't do it long term. And since I lost twenty pounds on 1700 a day, I'm going to aim for 1600 now .... I want to just lose maybe twenty more. I'm not aiming even for 'thin' either. Just a bit healthier than I am now. I had an Eggo protein waffle lol. It wasn't too bad, but I do enjoy the regualr better. I should add more protein, but I've been focus on calorie mainly, and adding more fiber every day. I'll def. get the peanut butter cups, thanks !!

I have something sweet every day.

Doesn't your body act differently when you eat 500 calories of candy/breads vs when you eat 500 calories worth of chicken/beef/ham/lentils?
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@Massageman I think it can act different if I've only had meats in a day or low carb, I get shaky after several hours.
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
Being a diabetic its only a couple or few times a month.
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@BeachGirl47 Thanks Beach girl. 🌷
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
@Baybreeze You are welxome. By the way. My real name is Sue. 😁
ArtieKat · M
@BeachGirl47 Have you got Type 1? I have Type 2 and am lucky enough to have a Libre 2+ sensor which monitors my blood sugar level in real time.

Postscript: Ignore all of that -
I've just read your later comments

Once a week I like to get a Diet Coke and a pack of those multicoloured Mentos but not on the same day. Call me crazy but Wednesday is my Diet Coke day and Sunday is my Mentos day.😂
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Baybreeze no I don’t.

The problem is if I have one cookie, I have to have the whole box so I just don’t buy them. or if I do buy them they have to be a flavour I won’t eat.
I don’t really like ice cream
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@Jenny1234 One treat I never feel guilty over is dark chocolate, I have about two squares a week, and my doctor told me to eat it when I was anemic years ago. She said it has iron in it! Plus it has as much antioxidants as blueberries. So that's a nice treat option that is more natural.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
@Baybreeze dark chocolate is good for you! Chocolate is something I never gravitate towards. It’s really not even on my radar.
TexChik · F
Some chocolate now and then.
sarabee1995 · 31-35, F
@Baybreeze "Moderation"?? I think I've heard that word before... What does it mean again? 🤔

😉
TexChik · F
@sarabee1995 I think it means to eat only "modern" or fresh chocolate.
sarabee1995 · 31-35, F
@TexChik Hahaha, that's my kinda definition! 😉
Oneofthestormboys · 56-60, M
I’m a bit of a biscuit freak. I get away with it though because I haven’t got a weight problem. Yet.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
More than I should. But my body has never reacted well to Smokes, drugs and alcohol 🤷‍♂
