How often do you eat a treat/sweet?

Years ago it was 3 to 4 days a week for me. For the past couple years, I've done just twice a week. That helped me lose twenty pounds, but also minimizing total calories in the day too. Occasionally I 'll cheat and have three treats a week. If I"m walking that day especially. ( a Treat meaning like, two cookies, or a brownie, or a dish of ice cream).
I remember this older man in a Dunkin donuts once, before COVID began. I was ordering a drink and he turned around, and said,"Aren't you going to get a donut? "I replied, "Not today." He said, "Oh, I get one everyday.' He was in relatively good shape too. How often do you have a sweet ?

Being a diabetic its only a couple or few times a month.

@BeachGirl47 When my mom became diabetic, her endocrinologist told her she could still have two treats a week. She does that now, and even three. But she has a small portion of her meal.

@Baybreeze
I guess everyone is different. My endo told me to count how many carbs i will be eating and take enough insulin to cover that. I was in ICU because of high blood sugar numbers and dont want to go back

@BeachGirl47 Oh yes, it can be very frustrating going into the hospital for high blood sugar. my sister has had to several times too, shes' also diabetic. She's had DKA several times in the last decade unfortunately. But my mom includes the treat in her carbs, and takes insulin for it. Her sugars are overall more steady than my sister's .....

@Baybreeze Its good that hers is steady. I went from an A1C of over 10 to 6.1 in just under 6 months. It wasnt easy
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@BeachGirl47 It's sad b/c my sister eats practically no sweets ever, and her sugars are higher still than my mom's . She doesn't take however the amt. of insulin she should be, b/c it can plummet it LOW, dangerously. Even one unit of insulin, it's crazy. So they stay high, and now she's having neuropahty in her feet, it's awful. No doc can tell her why her sugars are so labile/sensitive.
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
@Baybreeze Yeah i feel for her. After my stint in the hospital i now use an insilin pump and glucose sensor. for me at least it has made a big difference. Sure i have some highs and loes but nothing compared to what it was befor going to the hospital
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@BeachGirl47 Congrats that is truly awesome!!! :) (your A1C) I believe I'm in prediabetes range so I'm trying to get it down for my next blood draw.. ughhh. I need to walk a bit more, and basically eat a little less at dinner.
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@BeachGirl47 She's on a pump too. but even one full unit can drop it very low. They want her to go on a new automatic pump, where it will calculate the insulin, not her. But h er PCP says that is too dangerous with her sugars so sensitive. Are you type 1 ?
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
@Baybreeze I am type 2. I am no expert but maybe thats the difference between type 1 and 2. My sensor calculates my glucose and sends that information to the pump so it doesnt go to high. Plus i can tell my pump how many carbs i will eat at a meal or snack and the pump calculates for it. I am on a Dexcom g 7 sensor and Omnipod g5 pump. Some sensors and pumps may be better for some than others
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@BeachGirl47 Oh ok .. yes they want her to try the Omnipod too. But her other doc. agrees it's just too dangerous for the pump to calculate it, b/c it might not account for the reasons her sugar goes high that is NOT food.. like her pain in her feet or stress. That's awesome though it's working out for you, that is a gREAT A1c !!!!
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
@Baybreeze Its hard work for most diabetics. I hope one day your sister will find something that helps
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@BeachGirl47 I do too, thanks so much. Her neuropathy is so bad she want s to die in her sleep, that is heartbreaking . : ( It is a very tough mean disease. we are trying to do anything possible for her to get into the hospital to lower her sugar. They'll only do it if you are in DKA. Apparently her doc said they used to do it though, not in DKA, just to help patients get the sugars down. She NEEDS that so much. So that is what we are working on a lot right now. Find some doctor to override the insurance ...iughhhh. I appreciate your words, thank you. 🧡
BeachGirl47 · 26-30, F
@Baybreeze You are welcome. I will pray that she finds a solution and gets everything in control.

@BeachGirl47 Thanks Beach girl. 🌷

@Baybreeze You are welxome. By the way. My real name is Sue. 😁

@BeachGirl47 Have you got Type 1? I have Type 2 and am lucky enough to have a Libre 2+ sensor which monitors my blood sugar level in real time.

Postscript: Ignore all of that -
I've just read your later comments
