Its full of spices, some menus are hoter than others, if you are not in to very hot and spicy, there are other dishes you can try

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I love it. I like just about everything I’ve tried.
fun4us2b · M
Tikka Masala is very easy to like, with chicken for me, but whatever you prefer.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@fun4us2b I love dipping the onion and garlic naan in the sauce .
fun4us2b · M
@AthrillatheHunt yes, perfect for that...
I’m sure its great for some folks. But I lived in a condo complex with many Indian families where on spring days I went to open the windows and promptly closed them again because of the cloying reek of curry. One whiff and I’m done. Every couple of months there would be another story in the paper about an Indian restaurant shut down for health violations. No thanks.
ChadJNSD · 31-35, M
@stratosranger That was always my fear...negligent food preparation.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Is some of my favorite dishes actually.

Get butter chicken. It's like a creamy tomato sauce and chicken. It's pretty safe for those new to Indian food.

And garlic Naan. Gotta have naan.

My favorite is Biryani chicken.

Also safe, dal - that's lentils [think refried beans]
TheOrionbeltseeker · 36-40, M
@Starcrossed Biryani is from Afghanistan
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@TheOrionbeltseeker it will be on the menu at the Indian place.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
I've spent a lot of time learning to cook it!

Try butter chicken. It's very accessible to the western palate and guaranteed love for everyone.
Butter chicken is great! Chicken Tikka Masala is also easy on the western palate.

Among the breads, I see many people recommending garlic naan, a delicious flatbread. At some point you might also try Aloo Paratha, another flatbread with potatoes and spices inside.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues is poori the same as naan?
@AthrillatheHunt I think Poori or Puri is deep fried; naan is baked.
CBarson · 51-55
Yes, prawn vindaloo and shingaras with cilantro sauce
4meAndyou · F
Chicken Korma is VERY good. It is mild, and made with a creamy coconut sauce, and served over rice.
Naan is Indian flat bread, and most Indian restaurants serve it fresh and warm. Onion naan is awesome!

If you decide to go in, and be adventurous, you should ask for all the dishes that are very mild.

Oh, it's great! What I'd say to you is to try cooking something that looks simple, see what you think...then add to you repertoire. There's lots of recipes around...just check online.

I do some lovely Indian cuisine - Tikka (milder, usually creamy sauce) Biryiani (moderate, cooked with rice), Dupiaza (moderate, made with lots of onions) or Korma (hot, very spicy) just to give you a bit of an idea.

You can add anything to them - one of my friends loves mushrooms in his, others have lamb or chicken or pork, some just plain old vegetables.

Hope that helps, sweetie..

😘
Dayman343 · M
@CassandraSissy Korma is a mild dish surely
CassandraSissy · 26-30, TVIP
@Dayman343 Ever had one of those days when your brain is saying 'Vindaloo' and your hands are typing 'korma' (again!!!), sweetie?!? *Faceplant!*

Thanks for the head's up....

😘

I have not had much, but what I've had I have liked.

Yet I prefer beef dishes and cows tend to be off the menu at Indian places. So I go for Chinese.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@JoyfulSilence so you eat cat too? Lol
no those Tee-Pees are hot in summer and cold in winter. give me a good restaurant in a brick and mortar place any day
Uniquesara · 41-45, F
Tandoori chicken
Chives
Sour cream are accompanied
Try out their buffet
Its really gòod
originnone · 61-69, M
The first time I had it, it was putrid. Then I had it at a decent restaurant, and what I had was excellent.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
I love it and I think that there's a dish out there for everybody's likes because it's a very versatile kitchen. I love gol gappa but it's typically street food so idk if you can find it at a restaurant. Other than that, samosas are classic, aloo paratha, onion bhaji, dal tadka, palak paneer and chana masala I think are my favourites so far.
calicuz · 51-55, M
It's good, as long as it's not too spicy.
goliathtree · 56-60, M
I remember traveling for work a number of years ago and stopping in to stay at what on the surface was a dive motel with nothing else available. It turns out that it was old, but it was clean and far from a dive in reality.

I walked into the building that housed the office and the owner's living quarters and the smell of Indian cooking was close to overwhelming...in a good way. I got checked in and commented to the owner that he should open the doors and let the aroma out onto the street and he would have every room filled in no time.

As it turned out, I was the only guest and he invited me in for supper. Chicken curry with almost a fried rice....I don't remember the actual pronunciation of the name, but he and his family all laughed when I called it Murder Chicken (it was something like Murgg).

Delicious.

I think my favourite is a Chicken Pasanda but if you're looking for a basic white guy crowd pleaser, just order the butter chicken. It's delicious.
