My attempt at making poutine…

After taking the pic, I put it back in the oven for a couple of minutes to get the cheese more "melty".

As you might know, I recently made refried beans. I might try poutine with it. Been putting sour cream and once cream cheese on the refried beans. I have plenty of both.
@DeWayfarer That sounds very good. I was telling another poster about a recipe for poutine with chili con carne instead of gravy. There is a restaurant based in Ontario named Smokes Poutinerie, which offers different types of poutine, including the chili style (which is delicious). We used to have a Smokes over in Berkeley, but they closed during the pandemic, sadly.

@bijouxbroussard Quite a distance from me, yet if I ever get into that area I'll try to remember to look it up.

I once use to go to Ontario all the time. Had to go into Riverside the beginning of this year. That's half way.

OH MY.....

Literally had to Google of course for a wordy explanation lol...

I love it!

What kind of cheese did you use?
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard I first had poutine in Canada, and they used mozzarella. When I have had it in the U.S., it's been cheese curds ( which is sort of an official food in Wisconsin and Minnesota!). Mozzarella melts more readily, but the curds add an extra texture. I love 'em both!

I've never tried to make it myself.

@bijouxbroussard Ellsworth, WI. Nothing but the best from Wisconsin. When I need the good stuff, I'll drive the 2 hours one way, to get it. 😋
I just ate a half hour ago.

Now I'm hungry again... !

I love poutine 🤤

Ive never made it myself
@WaryWitchWandering I thought the heat of the fries and gravy would melt the cheese curds, but it needed just a little bit of help. 😊

You'll have to come to where I grew up for the real stuff ;)
@JimboSaturn I understand Smokes is based in Ontario, and a friend says there’s one in Toronto, too.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard there is one in Mississauga where i work i believe!
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@JimboSaturn That is the region where I had it. There was just a stand by the side of the road, with a handwritten sign saying "Poutine", and it was served in paper cups.

Never worked up the courage to try it.
@Northwest That I’m not familiar with…

That I’m not familiar with…

Popular on the slopes, for a quick snack, in between runs.

It's a friend dough, kind of like donuts, but it's kind of flat and irregular shape. You can top with different things, like Nutella...
@Northwest Sounds good ! 😃
