Which kind of lettuce?
Romaine, I separate the leaves, wash them, wrap them (in bunches) in paper towel and put into a plastic bag (ziploc or otherwise) You can also store the paper-wrapped bunches in a plastic container if you prefer. It keeps in the refrigerator for close to two weeks this way.
Head lettuce (iceberg) I keep wrapped tightly in the plastic wrap. After I use any of it, I be sure to wrap it tightly again. Lasts in the fridge up to a couple of weeks this way.
Same goes for kale.

Tip: When buying pre-bagged lettuce or salads in the store, choose the ones which seem flattened, or without any air in them. When the greens start to 'turn' they emit a gas, which puffs up the bag. So the less 'puffy' the bag is, the better!
Another tip: wrap your celery tightly in tinfoil. I swear, it will last for weeks this way!!

@cherokeepatti So I solved your all problems on new year 😁

@TheOrionbeltseeker I wish you solved all of my problems. Thanks for the ones you did though.

I need to know how do you keep lettuce fresh without it going bad (soggy or limp, and turning brown, the next day. It is ridiculous. It doesn't last barely two days, if that. Mine sure hasn't, so what's the trick? I hope somebody has the answer.
It doesn't matter if you keep it refrigerated. It still goes bad in 2 days

@LadyGrace okay

Today I put some very wilted cilantro in a water filled container. It soaked it up and became crisp. I reckon lettuce has to work the same way

What I do is put them in a freezer bag and then shove paper towls on top of the lettuce and leave the bag open. It will last longer.

Just don't seal them. Only use papertowl to cover them in the bag and leave it open in the fridge. It's like filtering your salad in a fridge with less air

@LadyGrace yes I do wash them. You don't have to wrap them in paper towels. You stuff a few paper towels on top of the lettuce in the bag while it's open and leave in the fridge.
@FreestyleArt do you dry out the leaves or just shake them real good and then put them in the bag with the paper towels on top?
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
@LadyGrace no need to dry them out. No need to shake them

wash with cool to tepid water and dry lettuce (i just pat it with a clean towel) tear into pieces, dress and serve (alternately you can chop with a knife but only if youre going ot eat it right away) tearing helps prevent the edges from browning if it sits a day or two)
Sevendays · M
I eat it quickly.
@Sevendays nothing wrong with that haha

A lettuce salad 🤣

I’m guessing your cooking experience doesn’t extend much beyond microwaving a few frozen white castle sliders? 😂
TheOrionbeltseeker · 36-40, M
@Zaphod42 Not even that
TheOrionbeltseeker · 36-40, M
@Zaphod42 Always had it from the canteen and family.

There are plastic lettuce keepers that have a spike you can stand the lettuce on. Then in the fridge....

Eat it soon after buying it and don't be greedy in the shop.
Only buy one at a time.
