A question to those of you who like Scotch Whisky…

What are some of your favorite brands ? 🥃

Not that I drink whisky all the time lol but Famous Grouse is pretty good as an everyday whisky just over ice or even neat, and isn't so expensive least in the UK that it's wrong to use it in a cocktail either.

For single malts, either Laphroaig (quite peaty, slightly iodine-y Islay - if you can picture a lone piper playing on an island shoreline while in the background are people gathering up seaweed, it tastes like that image) or Royal Lochnagar (Highlands, not necessarily sweet but a very powerful 'fruitcake' flavour which I really love
@Lhayezee i cant do Laphroaig
Lhayezee · 26-30, F
@rocknroll It is a bit medicinal I know lol
@Lhayezee yes it sure is very very peaty to

I hardly ever drink. Yet it wouldn't be a Scotch or whiskey. I favor cognacs if anything.

Now what type is dependent on tastes and costs. I can't afford the better cognacs. Yet Hennessy I find fairly good.

I never go "super expensive" when I buy alcohol.

My "splurge" brand of Scotch is Oban "Little Bay." Oban's "regular" Scotch is a lot more expensive, but I have tasted it and it is excellent. (We're talking the difference between about $50 and $95)

I also like the "story" of that distillery. It is a very small operation (I think seven people run the entire place) located in the small remote village of Oban on the West coast of Scotland.

They have an interesting website:

I have always favored the light fruity taste of Chivas Regal. I have also tried two tastes of Glenlivet and noticed that one was tasty and this other one is taking forever to finish which is not necessarily a bad thing. At 65 the less I drink the better lol
tindrummer · M
@Pfuzylogic me too 🤓

Bijoux, if you are looking for a really nice gift, I suggest a bottle of single malt. For somewhere around $50-$80 you can get a very good bottle of Glenmorangie. (Rhymes with “orangey”). Look for one that has either a “port finish” or a “Sherry finish”. I guarantee this will be appreciated!
@Harmonium1923 I don't drink, but from friends I understand there is a big division between "peated" and "unpeated" whiskeys. Peated whiskey has a more smokey flavor, which some prefer and others don't.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues That’s correct. Peated whisky is wonderful but I wouldn’t give it as a gift without knowing the person liked it because it is very strong and distinctive.

My favourite whiskey is actually single Irish malt. My everyday whisky is single malt scotch,

I buy it from a trade cash & carry for around £17.50 (inc VAT) RRP is about £22

I don’t drink ,
Just stopped by ,
Thought I’d say hello .
It’s funny ,
The first question I see is from you .Happy New Year .
Hope you’ve been well ❤
@rckt148 Hi ! I’m so happy to see you ! I’ve thought about you and hoped you were well. A longtime friend’s birthday is soon, and he loves scotch, but when I asked if he preferred a particular he said it didn’t matter. So I thought I’d ask the community. I’m okay, otherwise. 🤗
TrashCat · M
I enjoy Chivas and Jack Daniels mostly
The 'Sinatra' blend albeit slightly expensve that the basic is my Whiskey of choice
Peaty single malt 💕😍💓:
Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Bowmore, Talisker, Highland Park, Springbank

Not peaty single malt:
Arran (Amarone cask), Scapa, Glenmorangie (Lasanta, Quinta Ruban, Nectar d'Or), Balvenie (Caribbean cask), Cragganmore, Tobermory, Oban, Glenlivet (French Oak, Nadurra)

Budget blend:
White Horse (includes Talisker!!), Ballantine

Relevant ale:
If you enjoy peated whisky, as well as stouts / porters, look for Mikkeller's Black Hole peated whisky barrel-aged stout

Not a scotch drinker but I've enjoyed Glenlivet.

On a humorous note, this looks intriguing 🤭🤭

Not a big fan of Scotch, have had Dewars and Johnny Walker Blue. Prefer bourbon or American style whiskey
@BrandNewMan I’m not a fan either, which is why I don’t know what’s out there. I’m looking for a gift for someone who likes it.
oldgrumpbear · 70-79, M
Scotch was my first whiskey at 18 and I started with J&B. Now, generally, the best I can afford is Johnny Walker Black.
I never cared for Scotch, but my dad did; "Haig & Haig Pinch Scotch Whiskey".
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
My kids keep me supplied with Johnny Walker Blue. For a gift? Go with a single malt.
Louis54 · 70-79, M
I usually go for Islay malts. Lagavulin is a favorite.
Only actual scotch I've had instead of like a bourbon whisky was Johnnie Walker
robb65 · 56-60, M
@Bexsy I've seen the Blue but never tasted that one.
@robb65 it was ok. not sure was worth the price
robb65 · 56-60, M
@Bexsy Yeah, I was thinking that was the expensive version.
AndysAttic · 56-60, M
Talisker, Glenfiddich...Don't drink too much of either anymore though.
so many to choose from....lagavulin, macallan are a couple that come to mind
meggie · F
My bf loves a good quality single malt
@meggie Any specific brand ?
meggie · F
@bijouxbroussard Talisker is very good he said. Also the ones @BlueGreenGreymention he said are good too.
Matt85 · 36-40, M
The Famous Grouse is probably better than Jack Daniels
For casual drinking, nothing fancy, Aberfeldy single malt or the sexton single malt Irish whiskey.
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
Jameson and Powers..two good Irish Whiskeys.
Monkey Shoulder,a Scottish fave of mine is good too
oldgrumpbear · 70-79, M
@HotPizza71 like Powers too. When we vested the Jameson distillery we all got a shot of Jameson...even my 13 y/o son. He looked at me and II said "you can if you want to." He drank it. He's 40 now and doesn't care for Irish or scotch whiskey.
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
@oldgrumpbear I did the Jameson l tour, hiccup 😋
Enjoyed my two free shots at the end ( Mrs doesn't drink whiskey) and I took part on the tasting the difference between bourbons, scotch and Irish whiskey tasting too..more hiccups..was tipsy by 11am😝😁
emmasfriend · 46-50, F

tindrummer · M
Cuervo Gold 🤓

Don't care for scotch
MethDozer · M
McClellan's Islay or Highland are my usual go to.
Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and Balvenie
@Longpatrol A bit more than the entry level single malts, but not too high ... from memory. I gave up drinking a while ago.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
@NudasPriest Currently pay about $110-130 USD for mine so is that entry level?
@Longpatrol Hard to tell. Depends on your taxes.
