All food is eaten at the table in my home.
ArtieKat · M
When I was growing up we always ate at the table as a family (kitchen for every day, dining room for slightly special lol). Now I'm living on my own I vary where I eat - dining table is in the kitchen so If I want to watch television it's in the living room. I couldn't be doing with a tray on my lap though - I have the best of all possible worlds: a trolley cut down to dining height.

@mossyboots I think it is an expression in the UK too - probably larger than a tea tray, and sometimes with foldable legs to go over your lap.
This is what the trolley looked like before my friend John got to work on it.

@ArtieKat He did a really good job.
ArtieKat · M
@mossyboots He did! I'm very pleased with it. The woman who gave it to me was very impressed too
Since I became a widower and now eat mostly alone, unless I have company I rarely eat at the kitchen or dining room tables. So meals are usually eaten from a TV tray, or in bed, or with a lap tray while sitting on the couch. My couch and recliner arrangement are very similar your image :)
When eating in bed, It's a king size bed with a hospital type overhang table on one side of the bed, with plenty of space for coffee, soup, salad and everything else.

Absolutely, growing up and with my children we would sit at the kitchen table.
But, now that I have an empty nest, I usually use a tray table watching TV.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner some days 😊

Table (kitchen or dining room). Several left handed people, so it was one side of the table for left handers and the other for the right handers.
If I'm home alone now, I eat at the kitchen table, but I have a smart fridge, connected to the Internet as well as Youtube, and SamsungTV streaming service, so it's on when I'm cooking.

I'm looking at making a good tv tray for watching tv and eating dinner. I eat alone either out or at home so tv is always on at dinner time, going to make a tray 👍
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
My lap or recliner (in front of me) is my tray. Or I hold my plate in my hand.
Unless I have to cut meat. Then I sit on the couch and the cushion is my tray. I often use a placemat, though.

I USED to have TV trays. Nasty tippy things! But when I moved here, I bought a coffee table with a top surface that rises up to form an entire table top! Now I eat there...and my little dining room table has become a catch all.

@4meAndyou That looks ideal..!

I live in a very small house, so my only useable table is the one between my couch and the tv.
I have one more table, but it's small and for decorative purposes only (I covered the surface with a jigsaw puzzle I put together)

I only ever used a tv tray as a kid when I’d stay at my grandmother’s house. My parents didn’t have one. I didn’t know they still existed
mossyboots · 51-55, FNew
@Jenny1234 Amazon or Ebay seem to sell everything.

@mossyboots naw I’m good thanks

We don't have a dining room table. We either eat our meals at the breakfast bar or we do picnic styles on the floor or we will eat outside. But we do not eat anything but snacks and treats in front of the TV no meals
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
Depends. I usually eat at the table with the tv off but if the football's on it's on a tray at the sofa cos I've got double standards 😆👍

I'd rather sit at the table too, unless I'm alone (which is rare) I may sit in front of the TV
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Always at a table, even when I still lived with my parents, who had a telly - which I don't.
Convivial · 26-30, F
Living alone I tend to eat watching the nightly news at 1800... Just an old habit..
Strongtea · 22-25, M
At the dinner table apart from Friday nights when we can eat on the sofa!
James1956 · 61-69, M
I do both but prefer the table.
exexec · 70-79, C
I eat lunch in front of my computer, but dinner is always at a table.

@MoveAlong Do you eat 'Spamalot?'

Table. I seem to make less of a mess. Maybe it's just that the messes I make are easier to clean up.🤷
Ryozo · 41-45, M
I eat on a table. Desk top pc table that ... that counts as a table, right?

fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
We always ate at the table growing up.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
I'm too lazy to clear the table which is now a convenient place to store things, so it's a tray.
Chiefjustice · 46-50, M
Chair or couch, would be tough at the table 😄
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
