I never have before

SlippingAway · 46-50, F
No, but my Doctor had me make my own homemade electrolyte drink this weekend because my BP was low. It is very easy to make. 2 oz fruit juice, 1/8 tsp salt, and then at least 6 oz of water and mix. Doesn't taste great but does the trick if you need it.
@SlippingAway The bad thing is nutrition is an elective in medical school, and too many docs don't take it, when it should be mandatory.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@NativePortlander1970 I think they take one semester of it but think that is about change
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@SlippingAway That’s a great thing to suggest.

I was working on a job one day when, at lunch, one of the crewmen asked his supervisor, "Doug which is better Gatorade or Powerade?" Poor Doug's mouth hung open in stunned disbelief as he realised the questioner was serious.

I don't drink the stuff but when my wife was going through chemo her oncologist told her to drink Powerade for the electrolytes her body needed but were being eliminated by the chemo. My wife recovered and will not drink Powerade or Gatorade again.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@hippyjoe1955 I searched online and found some electrolyte packet sticks that had no sugar or dyes etc. It was sold on Dr. Berg’s website. Only reason I did that was if I wasn’t feeling well I could put it in a bottle of water quickly and drink it straight down and could also take it with me for medical appointments. I still have about 2/3 of the packets in case I need them. That pinch of salt that I had been taking wasn’t hurting me a bit. When I get dehydrated my blood pressure drops and I get weak so it was beneficial and not too much either. I take magnesium and potassium every day anyway. And if my sodium level gets low especially at night I wake up with leg cramps. Take a pinch of salt and some water and within 15 minutes it’s eased up and I can go back to sleep.

I do on hot days after mowing the lawn and losing a lot of sweat. I found years ago that restoring electrolytes is important to how I feel, and Gatorade does that for me. After a mild workout, I only drink water.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@exexec I had heat exhaustion one afternoon while mowing the lawn several years ago. I had taken magnesium and potassium before mowing and was stopping for water breaks to rest but got sick anyway. By the time I got the yard mowed & took my shower to help cool down I was still sick enough that I just wanted to lay down. When Ray came home I was sicker and started to get nauseated which may have been an indication that it was affecting my heart. He asked me twice if I wanted to go to the ER and I told him no. He was pacing around and went and got watermelon and salted it and told me to eat it. I did and within 15 minutes felt well enough to eat the dinner that he had cooked. It worked that quick.
exexec · 70-79, C
@cherokeepatti Maybe I need to keep some watermelon in the fridge next summer and lock it up so my wife doesn't eat it. I had my heat exhaustion scare while golfing in 100 degree heat. I never did that again.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@exexec Yes and you can also make melon balls to freeze if you can’t finish it all in time. Dill pickle juice works pretty good too. A cashier at Walmart told me that soccer moms were buying pickle juice popsicles for their kids for when they would get overheated to keep them from getting sick.

On rare occasions but I am fully aware almost everything that's sold as food and drink is full of cancer causing chemicals and essentially poison. Organic coconut water is as hydrating and healthier. Milk is very hydrating too. If you want specialty hydration drinks there are fortunately healthier options available these days in your natural and organic food stores too
Younameit · F
It does taste very chemical. I hate the dyes but I think that’s what makes them appealing to the buyers.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Younameit those artificial dyes will be banned soon. They can use natural dyes though.
Younameit · F
@cherokeepatti They should’ve always been in place. Because why are we using chemical dyes when you can get them naturally. I remember when I was the elementary school our arts teacher made us make a painting only using natural dyes from things we had at home. And I could come up with many colors, such as from beet juice, coffee, matcha, etc.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Younameit the natural color in one beet could be used to dye a lot of foods or drinks. So many healthy alternatives to chemical dyes. Why even add any dyes to a lot of foods? Just a gimmick in many cases to grab our attention.
Adrift · 61-69, F
The yellow gatorade was what I would buy when my kids were sick.
It was the only thing they could tolerate.
4meAndyou · F
This summer I did buy some. I can't afford to keep buying it...but when I sweat a lot, hauling food, I have to have something.
shinyplasticlove · 51-55, M
I just rediscovered coolaid. I didn't know they still sold it. Fill a water bottle up and I'm good.
robb65 · 56-60, M
Someone gave me a can back in 1980something. I couldn't stand the taste and haven't touched it since.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I drink it once every three years . 😏

I just bought some for next week.
bowman81 · M
Bottled sweat. No thank you. 🤢
BrandonWyatt36 · 36-40, M
I prefer Powerade but both make me go pee every 5 mins LOL so I don't drink it all the time
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
No too salty. But it does work if you sweat a lot, which is why it’s big with sports, plus they pay them to drink it,lol
InstructHer · 61-69, M
"Natural fruit punch" and "contains no fruit" would seem to be incompatible! Basically artificial then. It is not a thing here (UK).
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
I'm not a fan.
HumanEarth · F
Nope, I won't drink chemicals
LavidaRaq · F
Nope, I drink mostly spring water and coconut water.
Magenta · F
Never. I won't drink energy drinks either.
FreestyleArt · 36-40, M
Sports been promoting those as well. For a long long long long time
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@FreestyleArt Sports teams getting paid off for doing it.
WasEP · 51-55, M
Wish they made it like they originally did, hence why we have so many diabetic kids
G2 .. and very seldom
BlobbyMcBlobface · 100+, M
No, it's poison
Fullmetal · 51-55, M
No, it's gross!!
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
Tried it several years ago. Tastes like panther piss or how I imagine panther piss would taste
After being on diuretics for years I have an electrolyte deficiency issue, I go through a can every two months...
@cherokeepatti My chemo nutritionist and cancer surgeon both recommended protein shakes, now I go through about 3 gallons of milk and almost 2 cannisters of flavored whey powder a week, I like Six Star brand the best...
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@NativePortlander1970 Dr. Berg made a You tube video about whey protein. You need to watch it. He claims that there are 3 categories of cancers and for one of those categories it feeds the cancer and makes it grow faster. It doesn’t cause the cancer but feeds it. I buy and use egg white protein now due to that.
@cherokeepatti My cancer surgeon recommended whey powder, going to go by her advice.
