I used to love it! ONE if my favorites. Unfortunately, marmalade is full of sugar, and I am not allowed to eat sugar anymore.
4meAndyou · F
@Oneofthestormboys The sugar free types of jam, jelly, and marmalade, unfortunately, contains sugar free sweeteners of various types...and THOSE, just like sugar, disturb your blood sugar levels and make you feel hungrier than you would normally.
I DID once, toy with the idea of making my own marmalade...bought the jars, and the Surejell because I just happened to have a LOT of oranges...but it just didn't get done. If I had gotten around to it, I could have reduced the amount of sugar free sweetener.

@4meAndyou Oh shame you didn’t - it would have been lovely!

@Oneofthestormboys IKR? Well, I still have the jars, and the Surejell...so...maybe some day I will score a lot or oranges again!

Don't go blaming me for marmalade👀 Or lemon curd, or any of that potted meat spread stuff a lot of us seem to like eating, haha😅
Seriously though I don't know if any other countries like the stuff tbh🙂

@AdaXI Potted meat used to be a lot more popular here than it is now. My mother used to put potted meat sandwiches in my lunches for school. I was not a fan, and when I could trade my sandwiches I did. Some of the Irish kids liked it.
AdaXI · T
@bijouxbroussard It's still pretty popular where I am like I walked into a sandwich shop a couple of years back you can have any sandwich you want hot or cold and was like 'what's that in the tub?' and the person serving ''oh it's potted meat'' haha. Yeah I just couldn't believe people will actually go to a sandwich shop and order a potted meat sandwich😄...
Says me who orders spam in their sandwich LOLZ😆

I'm in Canada and I remember having it all the time as a kid in the 80s. I think Paddington had a huge part in why it was so popular this side of the pond for that short period of time

@emmasfriend That sounds amazing. I buy British marmalade from a local shop because it’s so much better than the American version, which is way too sweet.
bijouxbroussard · F
@bijouxbroussard I've tried that. It's pretty good. I'd like a little more tartness to the flavor.

No, it is very common in Australia -- Definitely on toast! On a cheese scone. Ideally, dark, thick cut marmalade
DrWatson · 70-79, M
It is sold in the U.S.
My father-in-law was a big fan . It was the only spread that he ever had on hand for toast, other than butter.
I like it now and then, but typically I use either butter or a non-dairy variant, and nothing else

I love it, grew up with it. And I’m not British.
I know other Americans who like it, too.

Yes, I do like it on toast for breakfast. I don't know if it's just a British thing.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
I like it. I think it actually originated in Portugal. Marmalade is a Portuguese word.

Supposedly 'invented' by a Mrs Keillor of Dundee when she received a shipload (SHIP load) of Seville oranges spoiled by seawater in transit.

@FloorGenAdm Did you like it?
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
@Oneofthestormboys I never opened the jar.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Never been a fan of marmalade. Vegemite or Apricot Jam for me.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
My favorite is raspberry preserves, but orange marmalade would be second.
It is a thing in Greece as well ,with caramelised orange peels
Oneofthestormboys · 56-60, M
@PepsiColaP I didn’t know that! Do you have it at breakfast?
@Oneofthestormboys yeah it's a breakfast item but honestly most greek breakfasts are a frape and a cig lol
Oneofthestormboys · 56-60, M
@PepsiColaP I’ve always enjoyed going to Greece. Lovely country, lovely islands.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I like it
exexec · 70-79, C
I had it on a biscuit this morning, so some of us Americans eat it.
I like it too
Lilymoon · F
