I was allowed to have candy when our family visited the Old Country Candy store, (usually as part of a historical tour my father provided for relatives visiting us from the Midwest). The store sold penny candy, and we were usually allowed to have a small bag filled with it.
My brother was allowed to drink soda, but I was not, because the soda was for my brother. In those days, a soda company named Polar would deliver their soda door to door to "subscribers". My brother got pretty fat for a while, and my mother stopped the soda service. Unfortunately, both my mother and brother "trained" themselves to love soda, and they were addicted to it all their lives.

🙋🏻♀. I had a little candy at Easter and bought some candy cigarettes at a mom and pop store once, but soda and candy were seen as luxuries that we couldn’t afford most of the time. Had Coke for the first time in high school and the burn to my throat…🤯

My mom bought one bottle of soda and one bag of chips on the weekends for the family to share. My sister and I saved it for our two hour Saturday night binge of Love boat & fantasy island

We were allowed, but on occasion. Looking back, though, I've never terribly big on either. Sure, I would enjoy it on the infrequent occasions I had them, but if I were allowed to more often, I think I'd get tired of them pretty quick. As I got older, I stopped drinking soda altogether and I very rarely eat candy. I find myself enjoying sweets less and less over the years.

Was allowed but never freely offered.until I was in high school where there were vending machines, soda was a weird thing to me. Buy it and drink it was more like getting desert out someplace.
Only for a few years did I ever drink it even as an adult. I dont really like it but I think it is that I didnt grow up with it.

It was a luxury to have any types sweets/chips/junk food/fast food while growing up.
We had home cooked meals for the most of our life and it's not like our family is broke or anything.
My parents wouldn't buy those stuff

Not me, I had too much of both as a kid. I pretty much quit drinking soda as an adult but I still can't give up candy.

@Echambers101 I know, it's extra sugar and other substances a body doesn't need and that are harmful if eaten daily. But they taste great.

Not during dinner, except on rare occasions when milk wasn't available because dinner had no milk, because somebody was kind of kosher and we had coke in our glasses.

We weren't even allowed in the kitchen except to get a glass of water. Candy was taken away from us and the rare drink of sodapop was only half a glass.

I rarely had soda growing up.
But I have had so much candy for a few years during childhood and got bored of it.

Not until around age ten, and even then, both soda and candy were in moderation.

I was allowed both, but candy was never my thing. I mainly had it on holidays. We rarely had sodas at home. Usually I would get them at McDonald's or someplace like that.
