Was anyone else not allowed to have soda and candy growing up?

Was allowed but never freely offered.until I was in high school where there were vending machines, soda was a weird thing to me. Buy it and drink it was more like getting desert out someplace.
Only for a few years did I ever drink it even as an adult. I dont really like it but I think it is that I didnt grow up with it.
