Do you tip when you get your carryout food from a restaurant?

馃 Whenever I dine in, I tip but I am on the fence about tipping when you get your carryout food.
KingofBones146-50, M
No because tipping is for the service that you received while you're at the table and if I have to pour my own drinks and provide my own plates and attend to myself why would I tip them
@KingofBones1 馃憜馃憜馃憜
Tipping is for the quality of service one gets while dining. Tipping is NOT for the's 100% for service. If that "service" is handing me my food over a I do not tip.
@anythingoes477 Don't get takeout from Waffle House.
Coralmist41-45, F
Only if the person was truly accommodating and caring i will tip takeout...typically I don't. I do tip 20 % or bit more in dine in.
@Coralmist I need to be your waiter!
JustNik51-55, F
I do. I mostly carry out from local places with great people, and I appreciate how awesome their attitudes are doing a job that I would absolutely hate. 馃槀
Jenny123451-55, F
Not if I鈥檓 picking it up. Only if it鈥檚 being delivered
Only if it's delivered to my house
Coralmist41-45, F
@FreeSpirit1 Exactly. Delivery yes...but just cant wrap my head around a tip for them putting my meal in a bag lol. (Takeout)
I do not tip when picking up my food.

Tipping is arbitrary and antiquated but it's good for the soul. You should do it when the opportunity presents itself.
Sapio51-55, M
If it's delivered, I will but I usually don't when I pick up take out. And if I do, I'll usually leave 10%.
hippyjoe195561-69, M
As a general rule I don't tip if I order and receive my food while on my feet.
Beautywithin36-40, F
Hell No! Money is tight as it is normally something from my order is always missing.
... ok, often.
The food industry is hard work for shitty pay, usually.
If the teenage girl stares daggers through me though..... I don't tip well.
seriously, I have issues.
I tipped a waitress after she dumped a glass of water in my lap and said " oops" and walked off....

I grew up in the restaurant industry in a way. I have a difficult time not tipping.
People need to live and restaurant wages are rarely enough.

Depends on the place and the service that I receive from the cashier. It's never more than $2.

There's a place that I go to nearby. Every time I go, I am greeted and treated well. The associates are never standing around on their phones or chatting instead of helping customers.
I can see the cooks in the back washing hands and cooking food properly. That place, can get a tip.
TrunkZ56-60, M
Generally not if I'm picking up carryout from a restaurant.
nudistsueaz61-69, F
I never have
I agree with you and your opinion, and the only time I tip on carry out is if the person waiting on me impresses me with their service and attitude.
Coralmist41-45, F
@WillaKissing Exactly
ArishMell70-79, M
No, only for food I eat in the restaurant.

I don't tip in take-away food shops either, but might put something in whatever charity collection-box they have.
Adogslife61-69, M
I do. Though it鈥檚 a strange change, usually the staff is young. They need a little fun money. Plus, it does prove that working hard pays off.
akindheart61-69, F
you know...that is a real problem for me. I do tip but honestly don't think it is fair except the cashier etc might not get part of the tips the waiters get.
itsok31-35, F
I鈥檓 frustrated about it, but I usually do 10% on takeout, and 20-25% on dine in
SmileSunshine31-35, F
I do, however I tip more when I鈥檓 dining in depending on the service.
2ndtimeguy61-69, M
Yes if its a waiter/waitress establishment
They have to earn it no matter what they make.
smileylovesgaming31-35, F
I all was tip
I did before they started delivery charges. I now get my food. It鈥檚 cheaper.
I do, but I tip on the lower end on take out.

These people take a lot of shit from customers and I want to appreciate them in some small way
swirlie31-35, F
Why would you be on the fence about it?

If food is carried to your table during a dine-in experience and you tip for it, why would you not tip if your food was carried from the kitchen to the take-away window where you carry it away with you?
swirlie31-35, F
10% average? That means, sometimes you tip less than 10%. It's always better to leave NO tip than to tip less than 10%.
th3r0n41-45, M
@swirlie I could be guessing wrong

I usually leave $2 and my meals are usually $9-$20

For better service or if I have a little more money it's usually 3 or more
swirlie31-35, F
Well, $2 is certainly respectable for what you're talking about here, so I don't think $2 is something to complain about either.
tenente100+, M
no i don't tip for carry out. I do tip for dinning in if the service is acceptable.
Carryout, no, casual dining where I'm served, yes.
