Same, back in the days I preferred it to having to wait for the waiter (kinda ironic it's them being called that, when it's me the one who hast to wait btw) to take the order and bring it on the table, nowadays I'm more focused on the fact that a buffet is pretty much just as hygienic as the participant with the less hygienic standards

A horrible case of norovirus pulled back the curtain on buffets for me, but I miss the trust I had in them before.

They are way overpriced, especially for those of us who don’t even EAT that much!

I used to like the idea of getting to try small bits of things to see if I liked it. I was never after the all you can eat aspect. But now that I'm old, and I've seen a few Buffetts and worked one while in college at an old folks home, I can absolutely say, Eww. Too many people put food back because they didn't eat it all and don't want to waste it. They touch and handle things.. they poke at the food with their hands.It's bad enough when the food is already coming out of a kitchen which you are unaware of the cleanliness or the considerations of the cooks, but then to put it out for the general public, and their children, to handle without any assistance... eww.
Also, when a small child vomits next to the buffet, how far do you think the particles splatter?

I like buffets specifically to take my teenagers out to eat on a budget, but shit has gotten crazy expensive as of late.

Yes, same. A restaurant I once frequented had a regular Sunday brunch buffet with good food, but it went from being the "after services" destination of the various churchgoers, all in their Sunday finery, to just a place students hung out, and the food quality really went down. It closed earlier this century.

I only liked them, the all you can eat kind, when I was a starving medical student. These days I don't come close to eating enough to make it worthwhile.

That because you eat less at one meal? Or you have distinct food preferences? Buffets suffered during covid. They are rare here now.

I don't really know why- same here. I have always been one of those people who can control myself at the buffet, however.

I don't go for all you can eat but for variety.
Ordering all the dishes would be expensive.-
Would, however, be a lot of good leftovers.

Just lots of average to bad breathed and coughed on food. I would much rather have a reasonable portion of something really good.

I know, right? Back in the day, I could go back and back and back until I was just stuffed and comatose. I called that a good day.

And that's just one more puzzle piece in the mystery of why I have diabetes.

A buffet is a waste on me because I don't eat too much even tho I go occasionally.

There was this beautiful chocolate fountain, and I couldn't wait to drench my strawberries in it...until I saw kids sticking their fingers in it and licking their hands

I still like them, but I have gotten pickier about the ones I go to. The one i like best at the moment is an Indian one. Fairly small, but it's good. And the small size makes it easy to keep an eye on how people interact over the food. But even that one i haven't been to in a couple of years.
