the older I get the less enamoured I am with buffets

Elessar · 26-30, M
Same, back in the days I preferred it to having to wait for the waiter (kinda ironic it's them being called that, when it's me the one who hast to wait btw) to take the order and bring it on the table, nowadays I'm more focused on the fact that a buffet is pretty much just as hygienic as the participant with the less hygienic standards
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@LordShadowfire are you trying to keep me in the house forever?? 🤮🤢
Elessar · 26-30, M
@LordShadowfire Nonetheless if leeches and stuff live in that water, you don't want to eat food rinsed in it 😬
@Elessar Good point.
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
A horrible case of norovirus pulled back the curtain on buffets for me, but I miss the trust I had in them before.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Flenflyys Holding a vat of liquid in the bacterial danger zone for hours is a leap of faith ngl.
ImpeccablyImperfect · 51-55, F
They are way overpriced, especially for those of us who don’t even EAT that much!

A buffet is never a good deal for me. 🤷‍♀️
I don’t like buffet. It makes me fat.
@mindstruggle Another reason I don’t go to buffets anymore. When I used to, if I didn’t stuff myself I felt cheated. 😅
@bijouxbroussard
Rightttt?
I used to like the idea of getting to try small bits of things to see if I liked it. I was never after the all you can eat aspect. But now that I'm old, and I've seen a few Buffetts and worked one while in college at an old folks home, I can absolutely say, Eww. Too many people put food back because they didn't eat it all and don't want to waste it. They touch and handle things.. they poke at the food with their hands. It's bad enough when the food is already coming out of a kitchen which you are unaware of the cleanliness or the considerations of the cooks, but then to put it out for the general public, and their children, to handle without any assistance... eww.
Also, when a small child vomits next to the buffet, how far do you think the particles splatter?
EPreject · 36-40, F
I like buffets specifically to take my teenagers out to eat on a budget, but shit has gotten crazy expensive as of late.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@EPreject This is exactly the thing I'm talkknig about. They're a godsend when you're a teenager. As a 43 year old man... ehhhh I'm now just seeing mediocre food out under a heat lamp.
tindrummer · M
Best Indian buffet I've ever enjoyed right down the hill walking distance
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
You couldn’t pay me enough to ever attend one of those. @tindrummer
tindrummer · M
@jackjjackson suit yourself - your loss
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@tindrummer Special except for Indian buffets.
deadgerbil · 22-25
I've never been enamoured. Went to one in like 6th or 8th grade and it was nasty
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
That’s wisdom, bro, wisdom
Covid killed ‘all you can eat’ here 🇦🇺
wackidywack · 22-25
Maturity is what it is
Zaphod42 · 46-50, M
Yeah, “all you can eat” is less appealing when you know that’s gonna mean acid reflux later. Plus you’re way more acutely aware of how little the sneeze guard actually does 😅
Yes, same. A restaurant I once frequented had a regular Sunday brunch buffet with good food, but it went from being the "after services" destination of the various churchgoers, all in their Sunday finery, to just a place students hung out, and the food quality really went down. It closed earlier this century.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@bijouxbroussard i moonlighted at a hospital that had great food on their cafeteria, i know that sounds crazy. On Sundays it was mobbed with after church goers.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
I only liked them, the all you can eat kind, when I was a starving medical student. These days I don't come close to eating enough to make it worthwhile.
That because you eat less at one meal? Or you have distinct food preferences? Buffets suffered during covid. They are rare here now.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
Feeling stuffed feels gross .
tindrummer · M
@AthrillatheHunt a little self-control would fix that
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@tindrummer oh I no longer eat to get full. I eat to not be hungry . I’m 6’4” 220 so I’m doing okay. Lol
MethDozer · M
@AthrillatheHunt I been told that my whole life and it makes no sense. Full=not hungery
scorpiolovedeep · 46-50, M
It is a trick to get people pay more than what they can eat.
I've never been to one voluntarily
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@PepsiColaP This the least surprising comment of all time
One more for the road.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@DarlingSelah There is a Filipino buffet I wanna check out...
HumanEarth · 56-60, M
I can't stand all you eat places
I don't really know why- same here. I have always been one of those people who can control myself at the buffet, however.
tindrummer · M
I don't go for all you can eat but for variety.
Ordering all the dishes would be expensive.-
Would, however, be a lot of good leftovers.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Just lots of average to bad breathed and coughed on food. I would much rather have a reasonable portion of something really good.
tindrummer · M
I must be the only person in this hemisphere who likes a buffet. 😛
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@tindrummer not the only one!! I just can’t eat that much anymore. Love salad bars tho.
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
All you can eat mediocre at best food and they're not even cheap anymore.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
Same with me. A buffet no longer provides me a good return on the dollar! 😄
Classified · M
Those buffets where every option tastes bad 😒
tindrummer · M
@Classified not the Indian joint I frequent - the opposite is the case
AydenAgoniste · 18-21, M
I don't like buffets; I'm a slow eater so they're kinda wasted on me. ☹️
Nebula · 41-45, F
So many opportunities to be poisoned
NinaTina · 26-30, F
Jimmy buffet

[media=https://youtu.be/mrF4nF8VUb4]
@NinaTina It's a damn shame we lost him, but we were lucky to have him for so many decades.
I know, right? Back in the day, I could go back and back and back until I was just stuffed and comatose. I called that a good day.

And that's just one more puzzle piece in the mystery of why I have diabetes.
Jexie · 22-25, F
A buffet is a waste on me because I don't eat too much even tho I go occasionally.
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F
There was this beautiful chocolate fountain, and I couldn't wait to drench my strawberries in it...until I saw kids sticking their fingers in it and licking their hands
deadgerbil · 22-25
@SkeetSkeet who is this addressed to, dear
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F

ViciDraco · 36-40, M
I still like them, but I have gotten pickier about the ones I go to. The one i like best at the moment is an Indian one. Fairly small, but it's good. And the small size makes it easy to keep an eye on how people interact over the food. But even that one i haven't been to in a couple of years.
Theyre not much of a done thing here tbh
Human1000 · M
Buffets are depressing.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
It’s never great food either
MethDozer · M
There's this one place that is nothing but a soup, sandwich and salad buffet and it's God damn amazing.
ImpeccablyImperfect · 51-55, F
@MethDozer that’s my kind of buffet
MethDozer · M
@ImpeccablyImperfect They make some really boss ass soups.
ImpeccablyImperfect · 51-55, F
@MethDozer ass soup? Hmmm….I’m not really a food snob, but that one makes my eyebrow raise up…. 😉😉
empanadas · 31-35, M
I have only went to like two buffets in my life. Im not missing much
