Do you consider oatmeal to be cereal?

I think oatmeal is oatmeal and cereal is cereal. And a burger isn’t a sandwich.

Hot cereal is any porridge made with a grain. Oatmeal is specifically made from oats. Other forms of hot cereal are (for example) Cream of Wheat (wheat), polenta (corn), grits (corn), and others.

ask yourself this....does one buy oatmeal in any section other than the cereal section at the grocery store? 🤔...i think burgers are lumped into the same section as sandwiches in a restaurant's menu

Certain plants are classified as grasses, and cereal grains are the grains from grasses. They include wheat, barley, and oats. So I have always thought of oats as a cereal, and oatmeal as a "hot cereal".

On the other hand, I don't think of myself as eating cereal when I eat a slice of wheat toast! So I am not exactly consistent! 😄

In supermarkets here, porridge oats are found in the cereal aisle, but, no, I don't think of them as a cereal. To me, cereal is cornflakes, bran flakes, muesli, etc. Maybe because you cook porridge but just add milk to cereal??

@JonLosAngeles66 and the definition of oatmeal?

@TryingSW45 "Mayo is an element is the set of sandwich spreads," yo. Unless "sandwich spread" is the name of product that I'm not aware of, mayo is a type of sandwich spread.
TryingSW45 · 51-55, M
@GlitterEater you don’t put sandwich spread in tuna
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
@TryingSW45 You want to say something along the lines of "mayo isn't exclusively a sandwich spread"

Remember Chocolate Flavored Malt-O-Meal?
I do. @JSul3
@JSul3 Yes ! It was okay, but never tasted like chocolate to me.
JSul3 · 70-79
@bijouxbroussard Agree...it was a poor sub for real choc.
GlitterEater · 36-40, F
Oatmeal is definitely a cereal and a burger is without a doubt a sandwich. What's wrong with your brain?
TryingSW45 · 51-55, M
@GlitterEater lies!!!!
Yes it's hot cereal.
TryingSW45 · 51-55, M
@JonLosAngeles66 hot cereal and oatmeal are different. See below
@TryingSW45 "Quaker Oats registered as the first trademark for a breakfast cereal." from the Quaker Oats history on their site.

Yes, because oatmeal is a cereal. Oats are a cereal grain.

Its oatmeal.
It's hot cereal.
2ndtimeguy · 61-69, M
It’s a cereal made from oats. When I’m shopping it’s in the hot cereal aisle (along with Cream of Wheat, Malt-o-Meal, and grits).

I'm concerned as to what you do consider to be cereal? Is it some sort of colorful plastic?

Also if oats are not grains then what are they? Insects?
