I was in Germany, Switzerland and France for two weeks (vacations). Prices are going through the roof everywhere. Even in France. In Paris I ordered a beer at a simple couscous restaurant near Pt de Clignancourt (in the north, where it's cheaper than downtown) and it cost EUR 10! (= $10 for a beer!!) In Geneva I was at a street café and I drank two or three cups of coffee while enjoying the view on Lake Geneva (just black coffee, nothing fancy), and I was billed almost EUR 30 😕
@helenS So I bought two lattes and two bits of brownie in our local bakers/cafe this morning £9. I'll not complain about UK prices. Ok so the outlook was a dull 1970s shopping centre not Lake Geneva with the fountain but...
It's now $10 for beer, not even premium, and $12-$14 for cocktails. I can buy a bottle of Jack Daniel's for the price of 2 drinks. Way overpriced and not worth the money.
Years ago, when I used to dine out frequently, I thought the cost of drinks in restaurants was crazy and wondered how people could afford to go to bars or order drinks at dinner as a regular thing. When I took Mum out for lunch last year, I noticed a beer or ale was $10, cocktails were $15. Fortunately, Mum was a non drinker, and I'm just as happy with tea or coffee.
For that much I drink for atleast a month or straight 20 days. Cost of pint of beer(500ml) here is $1 and apple vodka pint(180ml) would be around $1.3 so I drink around (270ml) for less then $3. So overall what you had is my budget for alone for a month. But I have been sober since three weeks. 🙂

I just did some very rough sums.
When I first started drinking in pubs in 1980, the average UK wage was 250 pints/week
@Fluffybull I have had Budweiser for $4.23 in some other cities in decent place. But where I live and when i started drinking beer I used have a bottle of Budweiser (650ml) for less then a dollar. 😵💫
It’s been 3.5 years since I bought a drink at a bar. I spend $100-150 a month at the local liquor store and that covers our drinks and the guests we entertain
Depends on the drink and brand obviously. Pint of Guinness seems to be running +/- $7 Bud Lite +/- $3 Margarita seems to be +/- $11 Shot of Johnny Walker Blue +/- $40
Wow. The price for a pint of something like Guinness or a craft beer is usually around $5 USD at a pub I frequent. A domestic is around $3.50 USD. A double tall mixer would be around $7 USD.
The fine print on the bottom might explain the higher cost, in addition to it being something touristy. I doubt your average corner pub in Ireland can charge those prices.
@JimboSaturn I think national Covid lockdowns and soaring business costs have ravaged the entire hospitaly industry. And yes, the young may see pubs as a bit old-fashioned, or outdated, a granddad thing.
Where I live a beer is at least £6 a pint and that’s not even a big city or a posh pub… it’s just standard pub in a provincial town in the Midlands - crazy!
@Elessar A pint is 568ml so slightly more than half a litre...that number is annoyingly welded on my brain because I was a barmaid in the 90's when they brought in new regulations in the UK 😂
Wow that’s a lot of money. I don’t go to bars anymore or drink. But I think a drink is around $12 Canadian going by what they charge at restaurant/bars.
