If a food or drink is "going bad," but hasn't "gone bad," is it still safe to eat or drink?

Asking for a friend. 😅
FurryFace · 61-69, M

WaryWitchWandering · 36-40, F
@calicuz OJ actually gets moldy super quick once opened
calicuz · 51-55, M
@WaryWitchWandering

Yeah, I usually only buy it by the half gallon because my work schedule doesn't allow me to drink it every morning. I worked some extra days last week and just didn't finish it as quickly as I usually do. There wasn't much left to throw out though, so I really didn't waste money. I hate wasting money these days.

@calicuz

Lol… God forbid… 🤗❤️
MarineBob · 56-60, M
Fda says no but expired covid tests and plan b is okay
calicuz · 51-55, M
@MarineBob

Thanks, I went ahead and threw it away. 👍
Iwantout · 26-30, M
Yeah what most people call the expiration date is actually the sale by date it'll be good a few days after that it's more for the company to go by so they can get it off the shelves before it goes bad
calicuz · 51-55, M
@Iwantout

Excellent, although I should probably through the rest of my Orange Juice down the drain. I don't think it'll last till tomorrow. 🙂
Iwantout · 26-30, M
@calicuz better safe than sorry
WanderlustCat · 36-40, M
Best before doesn’t mean bad after.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@WanderlustCat In some places, the "best before" date is called the "sell by" date.
AntisocialTroll · 56-60, F
Depends, if it's so bad it's rioting I wouldn't touch it but a bit of mould is easily cut of cheese for example.

Good luck!
calicuz · 51-55, M
@AntisocialTroll

Thanks, my OJ is a little strong, but I'll thow it out. Good thing only a little left in the jug.
itsok · 31-35, F
@calicuz if you’re not worried you’ll be getting drunk off your oj, then it’s still fine to drink. And if you are, that might be better
calicuz · 51-55, M
@itsok

Ah great, now ya tell me. 🙄
MarineBob · 56-60, M
I actually know a business owner here that pays me to get rid of his old whiskey for him.... if the bottles have dust on them they're old damn I like foreigners sometimes
smiler2012 · 56-60
{@calicuz] if any doubt throw it in the bin not worth taking the chance with samonella and food poisoning
calicuz · 51-55, M
@smiler2012

You're right, I ended up throwing it out.
Magnolia21 · 22-25, F
If it looks like a steak, smells like a steak, feels like a steak, but is labelled as chicken, you should run.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Mold spores on food or in drinks can be active spores long before they can be seen.
calicuz · 51-55, M
@Nitedoc

Well, I'll definitely keep that in mind. 👍
Adrift · 61-69, F
You can always put it back in the fridge for a few years and see what new form it takes.
calicuz · 51-55, M
@Adrift

Sorry, not enough room in the fridge for science experiments. 🤣

Basia · 41-45, F

SW-User
@Basia It helps build a strong gut

@SW-User or a Dead Gut
4meAndyou · F
Yes, it's usually still safe. There are guidelines for food safety:

https://soyummy.com/signs-food-has-gone-bad/

That being said, if I have a head of broccoli and just a few of the edges are yellow, I will cut them off and still eat the broccoli.

Canned foods are good for up to 2 years after the expiration dates.

If the food is cooked and has been kept in the fridge for longer than 10 days throw it out.
meJess · F
If it’s breaking bad you might want to be careful
calicuz · 51-55, M
@meJess

Thanks, I threw it out. 👍
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
Depends what it is, but mostly no way.
calicuz · 51-55, M
@Jeephikelove

I threw it out. 🙂
SW-User
I wouldn’t chance it
calicuz · 51-55, M
@SW-User

I didn't, I threw it out. But I love my OJ in the morning!!! 😭
Mathers · 61-69
If it is cooked properly it is okay
TheFragile · 46-50, M
I don't eat that shit.
TexChik · F
Nope it’s not
oldercanuck1 · 70-79, M
all depends on whether it is best before date or expired ,,,, expired date i would not touch ,,
th3r0n · 41-45, M
If it's just out of date, it's cool

If it smells or tastes bad, not really safe
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
As long as you got some Salvital or indigestion tablets. Sure.
SW-User
If it passes the sniff test, it's safe
Yeah…as long as it tastes good.
TheOrionbeltseeker · 36-40, M
Your friend is good
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
Sure why not
